Not at the state fair but headed to the Renaissance Festival on Sunday! Hoping the weather predictions for rain are inaccurate. 🤞🏻

Sorry, no State Fair for us this year. The crowds, the food (that I really shouldn't eat), the expense .... I'm disillusioned.

No state fair for skootch and I, the metal detectors are a real turn off, and being corn intolerant, I can't eat any of the foods out there, either.

I updated the clues for "On My Honor" - it's still a Mystery Box because you need to figure out the location. But this little box is still in play!!!
Happy boxing everyone!

I changed the listing for PREprandial to unavailable (the historic place is for sale). Maybe by April 1 (the box's birthday) I can put it back.

Did you log the find on AQ? Maybe you have a find with an only name.

Give some dimensions. That will help narrow it down.

MN boxes in General

Just an observation, I'm not sure what I'm saying.

I am searching for clues generically in Minnesota. To put in an old cell phone without service. Since, I don't own or use a cell phone just thought an old one of my wifes would work fine with "Clue Tracker." The Gps system in phone works without service, and the clues can be stored by the thousands.

I've been cleaning up things I've put in the app. Better coordinates, research notes, etc...etc.. Moving to different list like closest towns.(say I searched 50 miles from Fargo in all directions.. wouldn't want to keep them on Fargo list as it is 50 miles away)

This brings me to my observation, not sure its a question really.

Why are soo many boxes still active??

Some show no finds in 10 years with 2, 3 or 4 boxers failing to find them in the last 10 years.
Are we supposed to report these boxes missing?
What if the owner never replies??
Not that I want to, but can they be forced to archive retire??
Is there a mandatory box retirement quota?

For example: If a box hasn't been found in 10 years, The owner hasn't logged in in 5 years, and 3 people couldn't find it over the 10 years when no one has found it.

I'm not really complaining, I don't know what I'm really asking or saying. I've just been adding starting points to several letterboxes over the last week, at least 50 so far with research. About one in 4 I look at seem to be gone by my personal account of looking.

Just curious what others think around this state. Since I am only looking at boxes in this state for the most part.

This isn't unique to Minnesota. I hate cluttered searches, so I will ignore a number of boxes like you mention, unless I want to go for more than just the letterbox (historical, humorous reasons). There are a number of LbNA boxes that haven't been maintained as well. Just the nature of the beast.
I should ask someone to verify Troll Bait for me. Probably gone, but I haven't been back to verify.

"Why are soo many boxes still active??"

Because there is always a chance it may be found. Some Lbxers like the challenge of trying to find a Lbx that is seemingly missing or hard to find. Also every state likes to have as many "Active" Lbxs as reasonably justified.

For example "Sand Tiger". It's not an easy find, but AFAIK it's still hiding where it was originally planted. The original planter long ago moved away and apparently lost interest in Lbxing. Still it is a nice carve, logbook and Lbx that may yet be dry.

No longer have a car (electric cargotrike +5,700 miles), soo too far to travel (not legal on Hgwy 169 and 694) for me to see if it's still there or missing.

Anyone interested in a most challenging Challenge ?

It's almost a month away! If you wanted to take part in the Supernatural event with Guntar, skootch, and I, sign up! Skootch is going to want to know how many, as he's making his FABULOUS pulled pork for a late lunch!

We also have a few stamps that need carving, if you want to sign up to do that!

If you were planning on getting my Dangerous Man box, your time is limited! Last week they announced that they're closing their taproom and growler shop. Since the box is hidden in the growler shop, I'll be retiring it once they close. They're planning on closing Saturday, Oct. 21, so there's still some time to get it and enjoy one of their beers.

We went 0 for 4 on a series today. I don’t think we have ever completely struck out on a series over 2 boxes before. Park has had a lot of tree removal and controlled burns done though which didn’t help some of the boxes. Still was a beautiful day to get out for a walk/hike though!

Just to expound on this a little… MN is up for hosting the Great Lakes LB Gathering in 2024. If there is anyone interested in hosting, please contact me. I would also be interested in hearing from anyone in IL who might be interested as IL is next in the rotation and would be considered if nobody in MN steps up to host.

It was Life in Purgatory in Purgatory Park Minnetonka. They have done a lot of tree cutting there so wiped out all the boxes.

I’m brand new to letterboxing, and this is frustrating me as well. Only where I live, about 75% of my search returns seem to be active, though they are listed as active.

I live in the Houston area and we had Hurricane Harvey flood almost all of our area in 2017. If I see that an outside box has not been found (especially with attempts made) since before 2017, I can safely assume it is a Harvey casualty.

Why are these not retired? It is had to sift through the MANY very old boxes to find the ones that are still findable.

What can be done?
