Greetings! I am planning a trip in mid-March to go letterboxing for my birthday.

I plan to stop in Casey for some fun boxing and pictures. Would anybody like to come out to Casey and play with me? It will probably be Wednesday, March 15th.

You will like Casey. A great little town. Letterboxes made me stop there for a day.

North suburbs question

Hi all,
I am looking to plant a box for a fandom that I am in - a fictional space navy. I have one box ready to go and was thinking about maybe adding to that one. I want to introduce a group to letterboxing with this box. My ship has members mostly in Chicago and Milwaukee, so I am looking the split the difference. I'm looking for suggestions for a park in the north suburbs that would be a good spot with some trails that I could maybe put a loop on, that would be good for hiding a couple of boxes. Any advice?

You might like Independence Grove Forest Preserve, easy to get to- there were some boxes there I have found but if I remember, it is a nice wooded trail.

I'll check it out. I was looking on google maps and that kind of looks like the paths are out in the open, unless there is another loop that I'm not seeing.

Hey IL letterboxers! Although MN is up for hosting the Great Lakes LB Gathering in 2024, IL would be next in the rotation if there is nobody from MN who volunteers to host, or for 2025 if MN does host in 2024.

If there is anyone interested in hosting, please contact me.

I’ll be at Pearson and Rush from Dec. 27 - Dec. 29. Does anyone want to meet for Breakfast near there. Are there any WOM boxes near there? Looking forward to it!

Illinois letter boxers- noting there are not too many letterboxes in Chicago. What is your experience there?
I would love to see a focus to get people to plant boxes in the city in 2024.
Any thoughts???

I live a couple of hours away from Peoria- have not letterboxed there. There certainly are 'hot spots' where active letterboxers live!

While I have not explored the entire state, I would focus on Champaign, Naperville/Wheaton, and in the area of Forest Park (outside of Chicago) there is a cemetery called Forest Home cemetery. The towns around there also have a good number of boxes.
Danville has boxes and there is another town south of Champaign- let me ask TeachJR what it is.

Thanks, I really got frustrated when I was there this year. It was pathetic - people not taking care of their boxes. I even emailed a few people and did not receive any responses. I go back in May and will concentrate on the areas you suggested.

If you go to Forest Home, print out clues and do puzzles first- one of the planters there uses lots of 'fill in's'. There are plenty of other boxes though by another planter!
I hope to have a few more boxes in Chicago in the future!

Hi there !
There are quite a few boxes located in and around Rockford, Illinois. Rockford is located about an hour and half west of Chicago. A couple of nice museums with stamps relating to the area. Including an older stamp Rockford Peaches. A lot of stamps in cemeteries with great carves

I was in Milwaukee this weekend- TONS of boxes there as well! But, then you are making it into Wisc!

Another boxing friends says look up Decatur and Bloomington . Also, not too far away from Rockford- Harvard and Crystal Lake. And she says Casey Il is amazing. I will have to go check that out too!

I am heading to Kankakee this weekend- hope to plant a few there as well.

Casey, IL is amazing and quite a few boxes there to make you smile!

Consider the Moonshine General Store 15 minutes away for Lunch... very unique!

Curious if you know how to search by cities on AQ?
Also, there is a fabulous app called Clue Tracker- I use it so much! On the road, you can search for nearby boxes to your location- love it!

Several boxers who previously lived in that area are no longer active unfortunately. If you haven't already, maybe try Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. I think there are a few left there.

While I don't always use it, Peoria is one area where I find AQ's "sort by" filter on the Advanced Search to be very helpful to show the search results by last found date. I often hate to ignore older boxes that just haven't been found in a while, but I've found that search option to be helpful in that area particularly.

I can second those suggestions- Casey, IL is a fun little town with big things :) Decatur, Springfield, and Farmer City/Mahomet would be good areas to check out a little closer to Peoria.

Good morning,
I'm looking at a box in a state park and saw the statement about geocaches. Any one who has experience with boxes in a state park?
