LBXX & LBXXV

It was fun watching all of you at LBXX event, especially seeing our gift to the raffle being enjoyed so much. Hopefully many of you found our Letterboxes, and had fun with the images on some of them. You all deserve Honorary Texan status for your fun loving attitudes, and overcoming the elements (and snakes).

Now for the next event (LB XXV) in 5 years. We plan on being there, and early poll results are showing Michigan in the lead, with Virginia and Colorado close behind. We wish the winners of the poll well, and can't wait to invade your state. Remember, if you win you still should get the blessing of Der Mad Stamper.

Until then, keep your feet dry and stamps wet!

Yes, where's the poll? This Michigander would definitely vote for Virginia!

No, no, it's not that. It's just that I've already done loads of boxing in Michigan. I want to go to a big event in Virginia, my native state. And I promise to help wherever it is.

A big part of the fun for me was helping to show off Texas letterboxing for the boxers that came from all over the country. Just saying...

I’m not saying yay or nay but I think there should definitely be a poll. See where people want to go.

See where people want to go.

I don't think that can be the whole reason for determining where an event of this size should be held. As I am sure the Texas team can tell you, it takes a whole lot of work by a whole lot of people to make the event a success. Personally, I would love to see it on Virginia but don't know if there are enough boxers in that area who could devote the time or money needed. Maybe the first consideration should be to determine where there are enough boxers wanting this challenge.

I can't wait, where ever the event is held. Do agree, it takes a team of people who want to do this, with a strong organizer as the leader.

The issue is not where people want to go, the issue is who is willing to put on the event. People will come anywhere it is hosted (well, maybe if I not if I hosted it up here, but ALMOST anywhere).

For instance, I remember lots of places being suggested after the last L&B as good locations for various reasons. But in most cases, it was not people FROM those locations doing the volunteering...

That’s what I meant- determine where from the states that throw their hats in the ring. It’s a big commitment, and should not be taken on lightly. I do know Virginia is seriously looking into it. I haven’t talked seriously to my MI crew, but don’t count us totally out. I heard talk about Colorado, too, which would be cool. No matter where, though, it will be great!

Well everyone has about 3 years to think about it! For those considering it, I highly recommend you finalize a decision about 2 years before the event. Finding the right location is the biggest concern up front, and it can make or break the decision to host.

It was fun watching all of you at LBXX event, [...] Now for the next event (LB XXV) in 5 years.

Usually things are numbered sequentially. I guess this event is number for the number of years since the first. That's cool, just as long as we all understand that is how it works.

Hold an event in August and you'll be surprised about how many people will find their way to Alaska.

Actually, L&B is numbered for the anniversary of the Smithsonian magazine article that is traditionally considered the start of letterboxing in the US.

All ~10 quasi-active letterboxers you mean?

At least we have lots of muggle-free places to plant the boxes. Now if we could only keep the bears away from the event...

Well, first you have to write an email to the Renegades and prove that you are a valid and worthy letterboxer in order to receive an email 3 weeks later with the details of how to find the poll...

Oh come on, who doesn't enjoy a 3-4 day drive from the Canadian border to Anchorage to spend a weekend then drive back?!?

I hope we are at least ahead of North Dakota since we actually have more boxes here. And letterboxers too I suspect.

Alaska, really.

Don't blame the Alaskans for that one. After an Alaskan wrote that L&B wouldn't happen in Alaska, I suggested having an event in Alaska (in August) and see who comes.
