I'd have to say the best letterboxing experience I had this year was going to Rocky Point State Park in Warwick, RI. You can go on amazing walks there and there is a beautiful view of the ocean. The structures that are left from the old amusement park are fascinating. I went on February 26, and found the Rocky Point Sign series planted by T n C. I also found the Justice League HH!

What was your best Letterboxing experience of 2017?

Finally finished up the New England Trail from Long Island Sound to Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire. Started in 2012 with NET series in Guilford by first Wanda & Pete and then Bluebird. Got every box I could along the trail, and in Connecticut I tried to get all the boxes on the interconnecting trail systems, of which there were many. All told, there were about 500 boxes in Connecticut and maybe 100 in Massachusetts. And 1 in New Hampshire. In Connecticut I could always count on finding a Rubaduc box no matter how remote the trail section, so I planted a Duc flag at the top of Monadnock.

I had a lot of great letterboxing experiences in 2017, but a couple of highlights involved finally meeting some long-time letterboxing friends when Southpaw and I visited Oregon and Washington in July.

My best letterboxing experience of 2017 was all centered around my boxing friends, who held me up, and took care of skootch and I when life tuned upside down, but seeing them hunt for our boxes in a completely uncharted state forest was the most fun.

Best Letterbox experience of 2017 was definitely 'The eclipse in the park' event! OMG a total eclipse is something everyone must experience once in their lifetime. It was amazing!!! Add to that a find of a Green Tortuga box.

yes an amazing DAY!!!

Thank you Baliwho for driving 20 hours, and MOUR4ME for hosting.

I've been trying to think of my favorite and I have to second your choice. That was an amazing event. I'll never forget that glowing moment. I didn't have to drive for 20 hours, but it did take us 5 hours to drive 100 miles back home because of traffic. My daughter was not pleased. She has major road rage with motorcycles driving past on the shoulder and down the middle of the highway between the cars.

Agreed! It was about a 20 hour round trip for us as well, and a last minute one that I'm so glad worked out! We did get poured on before we left, but enjoyed meeting new letterboxers and some I've traded LTCs with. :)

I have to say that I've had so many great letter boxing experiences in 2017 but I'd say one my best experiences was in Central Park NY. My good friend was moving to Florida and before she left , I planned a day out in NYC…We found some letterboxes, I planted one and we had a beautiful lunch at the Boathouse on the lake in Central Park…perfect day!

This probably was one of the highlights of the letterboxing year for us too - very fun seeing old and new (long-distance) friends at a chatty and relaxing event.

I had a renewed love for letterboxing in 2017. We hit 3500 finds and I started a video log for our letterboxing adventures on YouTube.

The most exciting thing though, was my mom boxing with me for the first time, and falling in love with the hobby right away. We've had a pretty busy year starting in July when we got the call that there was a pair of lungs available for my dad (he had pulmonary fibrosis and was placed on the transplant list in April.) We didn't expect it to happen so quickly, but it's been a whirlwind ride. While my dad was in Boston, in the hospital and then rehab, my mom and I would travel down and spend the night just over the Mass/NH line. One day we got there early enough that we decided to do some boxing in the area. I let her read the clue and do the searching for a two box series carved for one of her favorite authors, John Greenleaf Whittier. Within the next couple of months, she has a signature stamp, has attended her first event and is throwing out ideas for a weekend event in my home town!!! It's so nice to have her join my letterboxing family. Now, my dad is talking about joining us, when he is stronger and can be around a big crowd of people.

2017 was pretty great from my point of view!

Yes, the eclipse! Amazing experience! And I walked into town (Independence, OR) for a box at the local history museum.

I dunno about the best experience, but watching Open Space pulling the trigger on Live & Breathe in Texas was pretty exciting. I have a four-pack of walkie-talkies on layaway.
