Well, I'm with you, Paper Trail-I love SLQ and I need a fix, real bad! The stuff I got was from Florida Four, when she did a mass order from Sweetlovequiner(who I hear is not selling any more) and distributed it to people at an event in Florida a few years ago. I sat on the slabs I bought until recently, since I still had some good pink. Now, I really want to get more, but there is no identifying label or markings on my SLQ to track it or compare to other material, unless I get some in my hand to see if it's the same. I really don't know where to go from here, but, I NEED some! LOL-maybe we need a support group....

Thanks, kudichan, for the info - boy, it looks like sweetloveqiner has sure embraced the sock business! I ordered the white once, but the colored slabs are far superior, from my point of view.

Gypsy Fiddler -- I'll let you know if I track it down!

Apparently, people really like this carving material. Please explain to someone who hasn't carved with it, what makes it so much better than OZ and Speedy Carve?

Kudichan, I measured my slab of SLQ and it is the exact same size....I'll bet that's the stuff! I wonder if she could get a lot more in stock, and then maybe we can get a bunch of people in on a bigger order at a discount....

I am a die-hard 2007 or 2009 pink carver, using gouges. I LOATHE any pink that's been made since the formula change, because it is crumbly and I cannot get thin lines or detail well. Oz is too hard for me and I have stabbed myself too many times to keep using it. SLQ has the firmness like old pink, and I can get detail well. The only drawback I have experienced is that there is sometimes a little inconsistency in the material, causing my gouge to seize up or stall out, and then suddenly lunge. I have to use it more and learn how to control that. It takes ink well also, although I have not carved anything with a large ink surface yet to report on that. These are just MY observations, experiences, and opinions....you asked, and I'm answering- not wishing to spark any debates!

Since when has that stopped anyone from opining on anything here?

Thanks for the response. If I may summarize, the SLQ is like the good Speedy Carve.

I too really like SLQ and can get good detail out if it. But I would take the "good" pink (pre 2012 and it's reformulation) above SLQ because of those slight inconsistencies in SLQ periodically as you describe. As a purely gouge carver SLQ has the right firmness to allow for really good details and it takes acetone laser printed images for transferring very well. I know some great carvers who dislike SLQ and I know others who like it. I would choose it over OZ and new pink anytime. There are some Japanese materials that are every bit as good as SLQ (and close to PZKut white) but SLQ, for me, is the best of what is out there right now for size of slabs and the price. Let me know if a good supply of SLQ is found and I will help go in on ordering enough to make shipping worthwhile.

Hmmm...I don't think that is the same as SLQ, and, it also says "cannot ship to United States" ! So, I wonder how THAT will work...
Thanks for those links though-I appreciate them!

Maybe this stuff is the same / similar?

Did you see the stamp shown as an example? That is a very clean carve.

Interesting note : my one and only SLQ stamp doesn't take too distress oxides well. I find that interesting because that stuff inks well on both pink and OZ. Obviously, my sample size is small.

Huh....I've never tried stamping SLQ with distress ink pads. Did it just look "distressed", or was it just really bad?

Yep, Japanese product made in Vietnam. Japan outsources a lot of their products these days. They're surrounded by countries with lower labor costs.

The Japanese stuff comes in regular and firmer. I don't think you get such choices with the Chinese stuff, although you can get zillions of colors including various multilayer colors. I also think they're different thicknesses.

BTW, those of us who have used the "firmer" agree it's still a bit on the soft side. So the regular is probably too soft for most of us.

Yes, I can confirm that I greatly preferred the lime green SLQ to the white, despite assurances from the seller that they're exactly the same product except for color. The lime green just seemed smoother. I have no idea if the same holds true for allcolors.

Harder than Speedy Carve, not as hard as OZ. And reasonably priced if group purchased to keep the shipping charges within reason.

The stuff that came out right after the formula change was truly horrid. It has gotten better since, though. It's still not as good as the pre-2013 stuff IMHO, primarily because it is softer (when I really wish the original pink stuff had gotten a bit harder!) But it's nowhere near as crumbly as it was in 2013.

I agree, Kirbert-but it is still soft and crumbly in my experience, more than I can tolerate...but yes! When it first changed, it was really, really horrible and then it got a little better but NOT enough!

You had me at "afford powder." "Hardness and ductility" is just icing on the cake.

I am not talking regular distress ink. I meant the oxides. They are supposed to stamp as well as a pigment ink. They do with oz and pink, but not on my little piece of SLQ. It beaded up and wouldn't cover the stamp evenly.

I know exactly what it is and I have seen the seller on eBay. I will find the link and post it. It was named SLQ because of the person's name on Etsy...sweetloveq... something er other.

Okay, didn't see that since it recognizes my location north of your border. Although oddly it also displays the price in US dollars.:

Free shipping! That's new! I love that packet delivery service from China, I mail-order things that way all the time. Takes FOREVER to get here, sometimes over a month, but you can't beat free shipping. I've ordered items that only cost a dollar or two and gotten free packet delivery from China. I dunno how they do that, it'd cost me more than that to ship it down the street.

OK, I'm betting this is the exact same stuff, only half the size piece:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-15x10cm-White-Rubber-Stamp-Carving-Blocks-for-DIY-Rubber-Stamps-Making/162600540764?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D47507%26meid%3D32b91548668f4263a8b96bdb9d3e989d%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D322025453461&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Cheaper, and still free shipping! Two different thicknesses, too; haven't seen the 5mm stuff before, but that's the lowest cost option here.

Remember, we only called this stuff SLQ because it was originally purchased from SweetLoveQiner. But she was just a vendor, there are dozens of vendors that offer the same stuff. Nobody, as far as I know, has ever found a proper name for the product nor the name of the manufacturer. But I'm pretty sure all the carving materials we see out of China are made by the same outfit, despite the dizzying array of colors available. One hint is that they are all 8mm thickness -- which is different than the thickness of the Japanese/Vietnamese stuff, which I think is 11mm thick.

It doesn't say that when I look at it. In fact, it pretty clearly indicates they do ship to the US. It's the first option that comes up for a destination.
