I received a message with this disclaimer at the bottom which amused me:

How do I know this is not a Spoof email?
Spoof or ‘phishing’ emails tend to contain your full name.
Emails from PayPal will always use generic greetings such as "Dear Customer(s) "

Plus they spelled everything correctly. How could that not be legit?

I've been getting a lot of emails from paypal/ebay saying there's a problem and my account has been frozen. None of them have my name on it and I turn it in as phishing as soon as I see it without opening. The first one I got scared me because my daughter had just bought something & I was afraid they didn't get paid, so I called Paypal & they said there was no problem on the account. I continued to get the warnings.

I got the same email. Horrible grammar and tons of misspellings!

Classic. What I wonder is, does anyone fall for this stuff? In the history of the internet has anyone ever thought a deposed prince was going to send them millions?

Like many other things, if it didn't work it would stop. Or put another way, what gets rewarded gets repeated.

First spam: actual history

Unfortunately, they do. I have a elderly widowed patron I've been helping to obtain free legal help. We took up a collection this winter to cover her gas and electric and she is in danger of losing her home. In 2016, she gifted all of her savings including a newly acquired home equity loan to her 'prince'. I saw some of the correspondence and it was text book How to Swindle One of the Lonely. I did ask her how she, an intelligent women, could have fallen for it. Her answer? "Oh dear, I always dreamed of being a princess."
