I have an older SLR but enjoy the video on it

Most folks seem to have trouble with the camera's ability to change it's focus while tracking movement, both side to side and moving away from or towards you.
I haven't used mine for much video....only once on a stationary performer on a stage. Mine turned out fine. Mine is a Nikon D-90.

I was mainly commenting on video performance from complaints I've heard.......which I've heard much more negative than positive in regards to the video performance from a digital SLR.

I'm glad your experiences have been good. It's too bad everyone can't say the same.

Can anyone recommend a free photo stitch program to download for a Mac? Thanks.

OK, I have an issue. I currently own Photoshop 6.0 on my old Windows XP laptop. My 2007 Dell laptop is getting old and I fear may die any month now and leave me hanging. I have a Windows Vista desktop which is what I use for a lot of my website duties for school etc. It's much faster and I prefer to use it over any other computer in the house.

I only use Photoshop 6.0 for basic stuff. Transferring pics to a sketch for carving, Posterizing, fixing color, special effects, etc.... Will Photoshop Elements do everything I need it to do? I really can't afford to buy another version of Photoshop.

Thoughts?

You shouldn't have a problem if you purchased photoshop.
You can just download it or use your disk.
I did a complete restore on my computer more than once and couldn't remember my info. It was super easy to get the serial numbers again.

That wasn't what I was asking..... I have all of my Photoshop 6.0 info.

OK.... This is what I meant. I own Photoshop 6.0 which only works for machines up to Windows XP.

I would like to purchase Photoshop Elements for my Windows Vista computer since it's a lot cheaper, but I don't know if it will do what I want it to do. Does anyone have any idea on whether it will do what I need it to do (pls check first post).

.....just a thought.....but I would sure give it a try first, if it were me....

My son's in a Digital Arts class at Stetson University. He had to use a digital camera to take a minimum of 120 pictures to make a quick stop-motion movie.

Mister Last-Minute panics and starts brain storming. Next thing I know, I am stuck trying not to move (and FAILING) for over an hour to film this little gem. Over an hour for a 9 second clip.

Oh and my son says to tell people that he did NOT choose the cheesy YouTube-provided music, thank-you-very-much.

The annual contest for photographs of National Recreation Trails (NRT) is up and running. There are awards in several categories and winning entry will be showcased on the NRT website. NRT is looking for good photos of trail users, volunteers, facilities, and other types of uses of the National Recreation Trails. Photoshop Elements is really good, it allows you to tag photos and I think it has face recognition to so that it will identify people in photos for you but I haven't used that feature yet. I believe that Google also has an online program you can download and it uses face recognition as well. My SIL used that and it was free but I can't remember the name.

"Picasa" from Google and yes it is free. I use it on a couple of my PC's and I like it. It does take some time, the first time you use it, to add all your photos to it's library, but it is almost fully automatic. It does have some cool fetures too.

I have done some pinhole photography with my students in 5th grade a couple of years. We made them out of those small round Pringles potato chip boxes. We exposed b&w photo paper and processed in our small darkroom to make a negative on paper. Then scanned them into the computer and flipped to positive in Photoshop. It's a fascinating medium and there have been some very nice photos, both color and B&W done. I'd like to do some on film someday using one of my old film cameras.

I have been tasked with setting up a photo sharing website for my son's swim team for all parents to be able to upload pictures to share.

Does anyone have one they love? I briefly started an account on Shutterfly, but didn't really use it. One of the other moms said she likes shutterfly but finds that the pictures are better quality on Picasa. One of the "must have's" is the ability for others to be able to copy the picture off the site for their own use.

I know there are so many out there so I am looking for advice on best quality, easiest to use, best way to share, etc.

You are supposed to be able to download full file sized images from it.
I've tried downloading from there and it is a little slow...you need to click on the image then pick the file size, etc.
Loading images onto the site seemed really slow to me.
I don't think that most sites allow you to save and download full file sizes if you have big image files....a 12 megapixel camera for example, you may not get the full size file back on download.

Almost every team we've belonged to has used the Shutter fly site. It's my fave and I'm picky. It is easiest to use and picture quality is great.

over the years I've apparently created several "miscellaneous" photo albums. Anybody know if there's an easy way to merge them into one single useless album? Come to think of it, I've got several that could be merged. Thanks, y'all....

Cell phone. You always have it with you. You don't have to make an extra effort to remember to bring it.

I'd say cell phone. You will already be carrying a lot - sig stamp, stamp pads/markers, logbook, replacement supplies, water, gloves, wipes, etc. No need to add a camera to the load when you will already have a phone with you. Plus, phone cameras are so good these days - unless you are planning to enlarge your photos to far beyond standard photo album sizes, the extra resolution you get from a dedicated camera is likely unnecessary.

I think this is the first time in 6 years I've ever heard this question...

Cell phone, and make it a Samsung Galaxy. They have better camera than i Phone.

When you are letterboxing, light bags are essential. You won't want to juggle a camera AND a cell phone.

Now get out there and find a box!
