Hi Friends!
We will be traveling through Salt Lake this summer and want to know of the best park around the lake, that might have a letterbox in it? ;) Or other must see spot.

We won't have a lot of time though, and we will want to see the Temple while we are there, just because. We hope to be on our way after lunch.

Thanks for the ideas!

You're being pretty ambiguous as to where you'll be traveling and how long you have; It is a REALLY BIG lake. This could affect the recommendations, and whether or not we can arrange an event to be able to meet you.

Assuming that you'll be in downtown SLC (since you're visiting the temple) for just a few hours, you should run an advanced query with slconfoot. These are the ones within reasonable walking distance of downtown SLC.

Yes, sorry. In and around Salt Lake City. We have a morning. We are driving in from Idaho in the evening and getting up in the morning, hope to see the temple and take a picture, then see the lake and find a letterbox, have lunch then off to Colorado. In August. We are going on a 6 state tour of the west in two weeks... Yes, we are crazy.

I will check out the link. Thanks!

If you are going to be downtown at the Temple, there are some Urban boxes downtown. Since you have so little time, I recommend doing that....

we will want to see the Temple

GreenJello had some amazing boxes inside the Temple compound a few years back.....not sure if they're still active or not. There were also some wonderful boxes in the downtown area......

They even have a keyword - slconfoot - so they are easy to find. There are some wonderful boxes there!

I was there in September. Didn't get many boxes but would suggest doing the Patriotic Utah near the state capital by A Patriot.

While I was there managed to get the following:

Ruth's Diner (Nice drive and lunch place but it is out a canyon past Utah University
Challenge Accepted!
Best of the Bakeries: Sweet Tooth Fairy
The Headless Horseman
Hatch Family Chocolates (Definitely a tasty stop)
Three Billy Goats Gruff: Folk Tales
Patriotic: Utah

Thanks everyone. I will look at the boxes mentioned. :)

I am not sure we will get to the island state park, though it looks nice. We do want to see the Lake and hope to find a safe, family friendly park or place to do so.

We have lots of other trip planning to do, so I'm sure I'll be asking about other locations soon. I love that letterboxing helps plan better trips! ;)

Antelope Island State Park is where most people go to see the Great Salt Lake. Entry few is $10 per car.

For such a large lake there are few ways to get to it on the west side, but you can see it for free from several places on the south. With all of the water we have had this year the shoreline should be close to where you can drive.

I love Antelope Island however, it is a full day trip. A half day minimum. Check out Saltaire or the Great Salt Lake Marina state park. I am not super familiar with either of the locations so you would have to do your own research.

Check out the "Hello from Missouri" box by Green Jello. We did this one and had a great time but it was a while ago. Worth the search :)
