Planting in same location
Board: Region: Rocky Mountains

I just found out someone planted a new letter box in the same location as one I planted last year. The location is not a large location and now people will be searching ALL over this small place to find not one, but now two boxes. Has all courtesy gone from letter boxers? The AQ Code of Conduct specifically addresses this issue. Does no one read it? I am usually fine with sharing locations, but this particular spot is not big enough for more than one box. Have any of you had problems like this?

AQ also has a Best Practices page for message board posting.

Before posting on the boards, how exactly did you come to the conclusion that the other planter even knew about your box? Did you ascertain that this was intentional, or could it have been a simple error? Is it really that close to yours? Many "points of interest" can harbor several boxes comfortably, within a relatively small area... the "near other boxes" phrase used in the Code of Conduct is deliberately vague, because circumstances vary. It's usually better to try to work things out with other boxers individually, rather than coming on harsh and accusatory in the boards.

Hopefully your clues are written so that when people get to the correct general location, they can immediately walk right up to the box and not be looking all over the place. If people have to hunt a pile of boulders, or a pile of logs, or check behind all the trees, that would be more like geocaching. The goal for letterboxing is to be precise enough so the boxer will see the correct spot immediately and not be searching for a needle in a haystack. Then you don't need to worry about finders accidently finding someone else's box instead of yours. Although there was that one boulder where I found 3 boxes a few months ago, each planter apparently not aware of the other boxes a few inches away.
