I've heard some people get offended if their cards are re-traded, and I personally don't really understand that. Would it be nice if everyone who gets one of my cards thinks it's a special little masterpiece that they can't part with? Sure. But that's just not realistic. Even if they can appreciate how I made the card, that doesn't mean they're jazzed by the subject, or the colours or the texture or... anything else that is subjective and might turn a person off. I have some cards that are really well-executed, and yet I am sure I'll eventually trade them away. Usually because the subject matter is just something I'm not interested in collecting. That's not my fault, and it's not the fault of the artist. Nobody can like everything, no matter how well-done it is. I'd rather have my cards find their way to someone who will really love them, even if it takes a few trades for it to happen. At the same time, I'm not going to trade something just because I don't think it's a good card. My philosophy is that if it's not good enough to keep, it's not good enough to trade.

That is, by far, the best perspective on trading that I've heard, and changes how I've been thinking about it. Thanks, Penfeather!!!

I agree. I love recieved someone ELSE's card when I was brand brand brand new. It was a gift. The reply I got was a :-( .
I never understood what that meant. And then later I realize that the person had not been too happy that I got their card. It just made me sad. They are trading cards. Or maybe that's just the name that Ryan came up with. Or someone else. I don't know. I say "trade away!" :-)
I make my cards for the therapeutic dose of the art :-) getting to trade with others is just a really nice bonus :-)

Yeah... being sad when someone gets your card and says something nice about it makes no sense to me at all. OK, someone traded it. BUT! Someone liked it! And the person who sent it thought it was good enough to send to a newbie, to welcome them to the hobby and give them ideas. If you want to encourage someone to get into LTCs, are you going to send crap cards to them? No! You're going to send them something good. When I first started and had no idea what to do, a few people here were kind enough to send me an assortment of cards, some of their own and some by other people. THAT was a welcome. A frownie face doesn't welcome anybody.

As for the name, they're a variant on Artist Trading Cards. I have no idea about the etiquette of trading ATCs, but if the people who conceived of this hobby didn't intend people to trade them, they should have given the cards a different name so I'm guessing re-trades are OK in that community too.

What?! No! You have to keep the cards I've made and love them forever!!!!!!

Nah, a retreat huh? Sounds fun. ^_^

I'm always curious when I get a log for an older card but it's not very difficult, if I'm curious enough, to go into the tracker to see if that person was involved in it. If their name is not in there then I figure they received it as a trade and oh well, at least they like it enough to leave a nice comment. ^_^
