Board: Stamp Carving and Mounting

I have a carve and it looks great except I messed up an eye. I've thought about gluing in some more pink stuff and carving that down anyone have any suggestions?

I did that on the lettering on one of my stamps. Got tired of re-carving the moose, so I cut out the section with the lettering and popped in a new piece when I finally got the letters right. You have to be careful not to get glue on the stamping surface (at least super glue) because the part with glue will not stamp.

That sucks! :-(

I got a good piece of advice from these boards once (though I can't remember who posted it) to always begin with the toughest part of the carve. I've saved a lot of time since then by screwing up the hard part before doing a great job on the rest of the stamp.

If you can't save it, I think that Seekers Two and Front Range Hiker are looking for "mistakes" for an event they are having this August.

Kind of late for this suggestion, but keep in mind for next time....

The very first thing I carve after a quick warm up outline, is the eyes, because usually that's the first thing people are drawn to look at. If I mess up, I just flip the pink stuff over and carve the other side.

Other than that, just give it a comical title, and plant it! These human "mistakes" are what give our stamps character! Embrace the wonky! :)

Well, sure you could, but that'll give you Pink Eye.

Yes, you can glue in a piece of pink. I used contact cement. You put it on the slab and the little bit, and wait for the number of minutes instructed. Then connect the 2 parts.

Cut a hole clean through the stamp in the area of that eye. Mount the stamp on something. Cut out a tiny piece of new pink that'll fit in the hole and glue that in, so it ends up at the same level as the surface of the stamp. Then recarve the eye in this new piece.
