Along the same vein of paper stars with messages- I recently received the coolest LTC by Kiss'n Karin from Lrosem's hexagon swap. Check out "hexaflexagons"... Maybe you can find a good YouTube video? I'm totally mesmerized.

Can you make a game? Fill a plastic pretzel container, or other larger plastic container, full of dried beans, but also put in about 20 or 30 tiny Christmas related items. So when you tilt the container, you see bits and pics of the items, but it will be hard to see all of them because the beans fill most of the jar. Items could be ornament hooks, ornaments, ribbon, bows, candy canes, wrapped candies, a piece of Christmas tree, spare Christmas lights, Hanukkah ornaments or dradels, gift tags, etc.

Then have people try to figure out all the items and write them down. Whoever finds all the items first, or finds the most items, wins a small prize.

What a lovely idea!
How about affirmations written on scrolls and tied with colored ribbon?

Here we go ... get started now! I like to make them 3 weeks ahead of the intended date of consumption, plenty of time for the best flavor.

Walnut Bourbon Balls (my grandmother's recipe)

12 oz. vanilla wafers, crushed (nearly pulverized)
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons hershey's cocoa
6-8 ounces, walnuts, finely chopped
3 tablespoons white corn syrup
1/4 cup bourbon (we're talking 80-Proof, Kentucky Whiskey - Early Times)

Mix the wafers, cocoa and nuts. Add corn syrup and bourbon and mix well. Form into 1-inch balls and roll in powdered sugar. Store in tightly sealed jar or metal tin for at least one week. Three weeks is divine.

I think you'll want to have closer to 6-oz nuts, otherwise the balls are crumbly and might need added syrup to keep the shape. (No comments, please; I'm already cracking myself up ... again.) You might be tempted to add more whiskey (to the recipe), but don't. You don't want the lid on the tin to explode. Also, do not substitute 80-Proof with something else. I take no responsibility for those results.

Enjoy! And report back your results.

Ooh, I think the gals at my annual cookie swap would like this! :^) I wouldn't be able to make them until 2 weeks in advance, though. Would that be enough time to get a good flavor?

Oh, awesome! Boyfriend loves bourbon. :)

About how many does this make, so I will make sure to have a big enough container?

Me, I guess. I'm just not into alcohol very much. I make horrible faces. ;) But this has chocolate so I might have some. We'll see in three weeks!

Yum! Thanks for sharing!
Unfortunately, I was underage when I lived in Kentucky, so I never got to sample any...

Also, mil has celiac, any suggestions for a wafer substitution? Might just have to make these ;)

Oh, no you don't. You cannot start a thread like that and then and just walk away! Such a tease. So, I just want to say. . . I got nothing. Suddenly I just find myself without the balls. Nuts.

Someone at my work just started office Mad Libs. She put a request for the words she needed (noun, adjective, etc.) out on the break room table. When she had all the words she needed, she filled in the Mad Lib sheet and left it out for all of us to read. Fun. I wonder if you could find Holiday themed Mad Libs online?

Oops - I forgot - this recipe makes 36. Don't make them too big, or too small, but "just right".

Two weeks is probably okay, but make sure you have them in the tin for at least one week. And no peeking. If you are doing a cookie swap, try to keep them sealed as long as you can. They may dry out if you mix them in with other cookies and get too much air to them. Don't mess with Grammo's recipe.

Good for you. My last couple of weeks have been hell, but things seem to be turning around. Just found out last night that my oldest daughter who was just married last Sept. in Colo. is pregnant and due in April!

My wife made these for me about a hundred years ago while I was in the Navy deployed overseas. She made the mistake of adding just a bit more bourbon than the recipe called for and mailed the bourbon balls to me in Pringles containers. About three weeks later when the care package arrived and I opened up the first Pringles can I instantly became the most important person in my squadron. I had to do some explaining because booze is not permitted onboard ships in the Navy, but it was worth it.

OK, I made these last night and put them in a pyrex dish with a lid. They're on top of my kitchen cabinets, because one of my cats will try to eat just about anything.
