When I started boxing, I couldn't come up with a name so I looked across the room... Bear dog! My big fluffy, drooling bouncy bouncy Saint Bernard. Perfect. We had to let go of our sweet furbaby last night. I am beyond heart broken....but seeing his name every time I box is going to be extremely hard. I just had to let it out.

I am so sorry for your loss. I started out in boxing 12 years ago as Team Little Dog because I hiked with my little westie/yorkie mix dog, Barney. We were a team for several years until hiking was too hard on him and I went solo. I changed my trail name to Janila at that time and missed him when I left without him. We lost him for good three years ago and it is still painful when I see the Team Little Dog stamp pop up in different places. Hang in there, it does get a little better but it never completely goes away.

I understand your heart break. This past January I laid down my third furbaby through my geocaching and letterboxing careers. They were all such good companions, as was your Saint Bernard. I have kept my trail name and, as you have said, I remember my girls whenever I see my sig stamp. I have the latest one as screen savers on my computer and iPad. I think it has been a help to see her photo over and over. It evokes sweet memories. I do hope your pain becomes bearable soon - it never goes completely away, but maybe it will become diminished when mixed with the memories of your good boy.

I had to say goodbye to Anakin, my sweet cat of 16 years, last Friday. I understand your fresh heartbreak, and I'm very sorry for your loss.

There are other boxers whose trailnames are from beloved pets.
May all the memories be sweet!

I am so sorry you're coping with this. I am going through something similar right now with our oldest pup, so I'm in the moment with you. I hope it gets easier for you with all the great memories you have of him. Thinking of you and hoping for comfort for you.

I am so sorry.. I know when we talked at the SOHT he was not doing well.... Just think all the love that has went into every box that you have gotten and that you shared that with him. They are never with us long enough.... Sigh...

It is one of the most difficult decisions one makes...I was faced with that decision, twice, while living in Denmark. We traveled from NC to Denmark with an elderly cat of 16 years and a pup who was 9. I never thought I would come back stateside without my "Maggie"...she was 11 when her intestines flipped. So very sad and heartbreaking for our family. Soon after, her buddy, Balcony, began to really slow down...at 18, it was her time. The Danes cremate their animals and have the most beautiful sanctuary in a private wooded area. I knew my girls would love it there, together.
Once they were gone, it was the most quiet our home had ever been. No more meowing, no more toenails tapping on the wood floors...NOT a good quiet. A year later (last year in September), we returned to NC. I have still not been able to get another dog or cat. My heart still aches for my furry daughters.
I am so sorry for your loss and I think your trail name is a super way to honor your fur baby. My thoughts are with you,
Renee

Reading of your loss just brought me back to June when I lost my last furbaby. Yes,the house is too quiet not having his warm nose greet you when you come. When he left he took a piece of my heart with him and left a piece of his in its place. As everyone else has already stated, your days will start to get better in time. I planted a box in his memory and it makes me smile each time a find is recorded. Sending well wishes your way

Thank you, your story and kind words help. I picked my Bear boy up yesterday it while it was sad and I cried when I saw his paw print, it was ok because he was home. I am keeping my trailname so he will always be with me. Sincerely....Beardog/Sharon
