Board: Television: After the Show Ends

Of the new shows that premiered this season, I have watched four.

- Life in Pieces (Mondays on CBS) was boring. I don't think I laughed once during the first episode, so I didn't bother with the second.

- Blindspot (Mondays on NBC) is pretty interesting, although I'm not sure how long they will be able to keep that up. They have to keep revealing enough information about Jane and her tattoos to keep the audience interested, but not so much that they won't be able to sustain more than one season.

- The Muppets (Tuesdays on ABC) is no The Muppet Show, but I think it has potential. Instead of following the Muppets as they put on a weekly variety show, this one follows the Muppets as they put on Miss Piggy's late night talk show. As a consequence, I think Piggy is featured a little too prominently. But then again, she always has tried to steal the show.

- Code Black (Wednesdays on CBS) premiered last night, and so far it seems rather similar to ER in its concept. I'm not a huge fan of medical dramas (I prefer crime dramas), but I think I will continue to watch this.

I'd be interested to hear what others have to say about these shows, and to find out if I should be watching any of the other new shows that have aired.

Code Black at my hospital mean Bomb Threat. So I wonder why they call it that.

I haven't watched any of these, I just watched all the Netflix of Breaking Bad. Really liked it. I need a TV break now.

In this case, Code Black means more patients than resources in the ER. The blurb at the beginning of the show said that most hospitals go into Code Black about 5 times a year. The hospital in the show, which is based off of an actual hospital in Los Angeles, goes into Code Black about 300 times a year.

Blindspot, I did think it was very good. But I am concerned that it will be a show I want to watch to see what happens. But will be looking for the end to come. I hope they can reveal some secrets than move on to other topics. The actors are awesome.

Muppets, I deleted it after watching the first one and half shows. It could not hold my attention.

Code Black, I did not program to watch it because I was afraid it would be like the other shows I am already hooked on. (Chicago Fire, Pd, and the third CHicago show that is also coming on this fall) BUt if reviews are high I might have to go back and watch. Nah how am I kidding. I watch too much now.

Now Castle, I can not get enough. I love that one!!!!!!

We watch all the Castle episodes & my daughter has all the DVDs, but she nearly died during the longggg spider scene in the 1st new episode and immediately deleted it from the DVR. We are disappointed with the direction the story line is going. We don't like the tension between Castle & Beckett. The same thing happened last year with Bones & we're ready for that show to end after being avid fans since the beginning.

I'm guessing they're piggy-backing on triage color codes used for MCI, Mass Casualty Incident.
More patients than current personal can handle.
Green, Yellow, Red, Black
The range is Green - generally you're not going to die, chill until we can get to you, to Black - dead or dying, little or no chance of saving, especially when there are others who may be saved.
I like Luis Gusman, but I get tired of the frenetic medical dramas.

Blindspot (Mondays on NBC) is pretty interesting, although I'm not sure how long they will be able to keep that up.

She's got so many tattoos that they can keep it up indefinitely. However, I think you mean to ask, "How long can they keep it reasonable while they're doing it?" I can only believe the first five being so well timed that they decipher the clue just in time. Beyond that, the person giving them the events they're predicting would become too chaotic to time so well.

They did bring up the question, "Why doesn't this person just give us these leads?" They're going to have to explain that soon.

An advantage to those letterboxers (and geocachers) watching the series is that there will be examples of puzzles to solve. The Vigenère cipher that they used in the second episode is not as impossible as they said to solve without the keyword, but the keyword certainly makes it a lot easier.

I'm watching "Sleepy Hollow" right now, and Icabod Crane has a cipher to solve. If they give details then it, too, can give ideas. "Zero Hour" was also good for this, but there was only one puzzle that I hadn't seen before. (It's a puzzle that will make a good geocaching puzzle but not (yet) a letterboxing puzzle.)

The Muppets (Tuesdays on ABC) is no The Muppet Show, but I think it has potential.

I've always liked muppets. This show is more adult than the others. I give you, "The band is always happy, legally now." I'll watch it, but I don't know how long it will last in this format.

The only new show I was interested in was Grinder with Rob Lowe, have not seen it yet. So if anyone has and has any feedback, I am open to hearing it. I can almost never watch shows when they actually air because of my work commitments, so I am always working or living my life while the shows air!! LOL

I am currently watching The Great British Bake-Off ....I am only on season 4 of that show. And as far as returning shows....I am looking forward to Good Wife. I will watch Castle with Ryan. I am currently catching up with America's Next Top Model, Project Runway and Amazing Race. Oh, and Downton Abbey.

I enjoyed The Grinder. I like Rob Lowe and also am glad to see Fred Savage from the old Wonder Years. They had a good chemistry in the pilot; exasperation tinted with familial affection. William Devane was good, too.

Has anyone watched Quantico? I thought it had a good strong start, however I'm not sure where it's going in the end. They left a pretty good cliff hanger at the end of the first show. I will watch this again.

Quantico was one of the shows I was wondering about. I opted not to watch it, but now am having second thoughts about that.

I normally do not watch a new show until it at least makes it to season two. I have been burned too many times by really enjoying a show that gets cancelled immediately.

With that said, I have been watching Scream Queens. Three episodes in and I can't decide if I like it or not.

I also tried Best Week Ever bc I adore NPH. I turned off the series record after episode 2 bc it's just chaos and really not entertaining.

The Muppet Show got deleted by me after 1.5 episodes. I just didn't like it, which is a bummer since I was super excited by it. I'm no prude but all of the sexual innuendo made it something I didn't want to watch with my kids. I'm not sure who this show is trying to appeal to.

I watched The Muppet Show as a kid, and when I watched some episodes as an adult, I was shocked that my parents had let me watch it because of all of the adult humor. Innuendo and other adult jokes are not new to the Muppets. Heck, one of the original pilots of The Muppet Show was called Sex and Violence. The Muppets may appeal to kids because they are puppets, but they have never been directed solely at kids. It has surprised me how many people have been surprised by the adult humor in the new show.

I also watch too much TV (darn you DVR) so I have tried Blindspot and The Muppets.

I liked Blindspot but I'm not sure I'll stick with it especially if there's a gap. I dropped out of The Blacklist due to their winter gap during season one and I have a bad feeling that will be what happens with this show too.

I didn't like The Muppets. I wasn't worried about the innuendo but really disliked the reality show set up. I am one that liked the really cheesy skits from the original Muppets. One of my favorites was the Trudge Trudge Streak Streak skit. Or what about the Phenomena/Mahna Mahna skits?

I haven't tried Code Black because I'm saving my one medical show for Chicago Med due to my unholy fascination with Oliver Platt.

Anyway, I am also watching Rosewood and The Player. I really like Rosewood although the chemistry between the characters isn't perfect yet. If they can get it to gel, that will be my probable favorite new show of the season. I also really like The Player but the critics all report it isn't long for the world. Considering I was one of the few (I think) that loved Human Target (which it sort of reminds me of), I am not terribly surprised by this and will likely watch it until they cancel it.

Anyone watching Blood & Oil or Wicked City?

I totally forgot about Scream Queens. I did watch the first one and enjoyed it, but don't really know how they can keep that up....but then again, American Horror Story does well. And Scream Queens has the humor (very dark, black, evil humor, but humor none the less) ...I loved Jamie Lee Curtis and Emma Roberts in it. And the ending of the first episode was pretty cool.
That might be one, that I will forget about and then binge watch at the end of the season. :-)

How much was it like Murder Most Horrid? It's a British show so you may not have seen it, but it is light-hearted murder anthology always staring Dawn French. It was definitely dark humor.

I suspect that Scream Queens is much darker.

I loved Dawn French in old The Vicar of Dibley! As well as all the supporting characters, each of which had some really quirky characteristic. I have the BBC series on DVD and re-watch and re-laugh.

Yes, that was a great series. I've seen most of the episodes. Some of the British shows have been redone here, but not many of them.

I really like the Muppets. The second episode was better than the first one and had some really laugh out loud moments.

I'm trying not to get into too many new shows, although Supergirl & Heroes Reborn are on the list. I have enough returning ones I like and it's hard to keep up with them. The ones I am looking forward to returning include:

The Walking Dead
Sleepy Hollow
Supernatural
The Flash
Arrow
Big Bang Theory
Once Upon a Time
Marvel's Agents of Shield

ooo.... plus Jessica Jones on Netflix

(wow, there is a DISTINCT pattern here ...... )

Not to mention that the Mets are in the playoffs, so there's some definite viewing going on there!!

You're always so far ahead of me, Amanda, and I'm such a TV aficionado! The Great British Bake-Off is such a breath of fresh air! These people know there stuff about baking but are not cut-throat about it and there's the low-key wittiness that is so British! LOVE that show.

I'm so envious that you can access Downton Abbey before the rest of us! I'm definitely making the required donation to our local PBS station to get the "free gift" of the next season on DVD! Still, Project Runway is my favorite.

Here's a note: my daughter was the casting director for Project Runway Junior which premiers on November 12th. She didn't agree with every 13-17 year-old who ultimately got chosen (there were more talented sewers who weren't "good television" in the producer's eyes!) but it should be entertaining.

I have learned tons from the Great British Bake Off....stuff about the Sugar Tax in England and the history of the Apple Pie in America, and why it represents America!! I used to bake when I was a teenager and I would make stuff like cream puffs or pretzels. I used to make stained glass cookies!!! Rolling out dough and making meringues, etc. So I definitely get what they are doing and know how difficult it can be....stuff like the humidity or using a different oven that you are not used to and make or break some of the bakes.

Looking forward to Project Runway Junior. Ryan and I love to watch MasterChef Junior as well. For those that are not Gordon Ramsey fans, he is totally different on MasterChef Junior. He is a a friendly teddy bear to those kids. And there always seems to be a challenge where they can dump something on his head, like cake batter, or throw a pie in his face or something like that!! LOL

If you like crime dramas ( my favorite) you should check out Quantico on ABC. Sundays at 10pm with an encore airing on Tuesday at 10pm. It's only the second episode and already I'm hooked. =)
Haven't seen any on the list you posted. I might like to see the Muppets though.
