letterboxing birthday party!

We held our daughter's letterboxing birthday party today! It was a huge success...with the required bit of chaos, of course. We had 10 girls all trying to box together...(next time I'd split them up) and 6 boys who boxed together. We had 5 stamps, 1 carved by me the other 4 by our best boxing buddies. I hid them throughout the neighborhood and typed up clues. Parents went with each group, but the kids didn't really need us.

The kids had a ball. They made mini logbooks when they arrived and I provided little tote bags, ink pads, pens and had spare stamps for those non-boxers that came.

The best part was the cake. I'll try to upload the photos later this week. One of our boxing friends (BoomBoom-Dad) made a cake that looked like a letterbox hidden in the wild...chocolate cake and icing sheet cake for the ground. Cholcolate cake with white and pink icing for the letterbox...even had words written in black that you'd find on a box ("not trash", "this is a letterbox", etc.). There was a pumpkin roll made to look like a broken log and parsley for the leaves!!! :-) It was FANTASTIC!

The stamps that were carved will be planted in the wild as a bonus find ASAP. :-) I can't wait for this little surprise too!

What an easy, inexpensive, fun way to celebrate a birthday!

You should try it!

I met some of your guests on the way to your party...they were very excited!!! I am glad it turned out great!!! I think we are going to try this with some of the kids in our area to introduce them to letterboxing.

Have fun!

I would love to see the picture. Can you please post a message when you do post it? Also if you don't mind me asking, what was the age group of the kids at the birthday party. I am thinking I might try this for our next kids party. We our new to letterboxing ourselves and have been having a ball with it. I would love to get others in our area just as excited and that sounds like an awesome way to do it!

Thanks

I created an album with a few pictures from the party. The cake was a huge hit!

what was the age group of the kids at the birthday party.

Most of the girls were 9ish...3rd grade. Some brothers came too...they had fun as well. I sent all the boys off boxing in their own group.

Would you mind posting the link to your album again? I've looked at the messages trying to find it, but haven't and I would LOVE to see your cake.

Last year was our first year and we dragged, I mean took along (LOL!) our 2YO Son, who is now 3 1/2 and will be starting his own logbook soon. This sounds like a fun idea!

Thanks!

Looks a lot like the cake for the "father and son cake bake" for cub scouts last year, here at my house.

Of course, short of the authentic pirouline log cabin and tootsie roll fire.

I went letterboxing with my whole 2nd grade class last year, so I can relate to mass hunting! It sounds like a great party idea, although my own children are too old now and have started to roll their eyes when boxing is mentioned! Enjoy it while it lasts....
