Uneventful Letterboxing Event

After the Event on Saturday we (Da Kool Kats) were up quite late eating, smoozing and getting ‘inky’ fingers with our 3 zany house guests. Sunday a.m. included breakfast, yacking, packing and believe it or not, letterboxing. I truly was sorry to say goodbye to Pengwen, Desert Ratty and lost sailor but in the afternoon, I had a lovely visit with Elsie Abbey, (LCAB). Get it?

I’ve now caught my breath and want to thank all of the wonderful letterboxing friends, both old and new, for attending the Uneventful Event and for your kind words of appreciation. I hope you all had an enjoyable day and enjoyed the nearly perfect weather that we put in a request for. If you went home tired and inky then you most likely was able to get a goodly share of the excellent stamps that were carved by ‘out of state’ letterboxers that we have met throughout our travels and at large gatherings such as Live and Breathe I and LbCON. They were all so willing and more than generous to carve for you and our event.

Now, to take some of the heat off ‘da Kats’. Many of you expressed your frustration and dislike of using triangulation and I was acutely aware of the mumbling of the carefully chosen words, *smile* under your breath of course, *smile* *smile* but ‘da Kats’ DID NOT hide that series.

When I cried out in frustration with the amount of boxes I had to plant, Doublesaj and Old Blue (John & Diane) and Christina of handy trackers were wonderful and came out to help with the placement of the abundance of wonderful stamps.

Doublesaj and Old Blue took an arm full and headed out across the dam…A Hunting We Will Go Series was the result of their hard work. This series was a longer walk and most likely more challenging and fun than it would have been if ‘da Kats’ (Carole) had planted it.

Thank you John and Diane for your assistance and for adding a bit of a challenge to what would have most likely been a shorter walk and mundane clues.

For those of you that have not been able to log the circus table-top box of stamps, they have been added to the event page under Event Stamps. It is called Animal Crackers – Boch’s Circus 36-49 + by Scarab. Before I return the Animal Crackers to Scarab he has requested that he would like some new animals. If anyone one is willing to carve something (small) to add to the set please do and send it to me ASAP.

Once again, thank you all for coming and making the Un-Eventful Event EVENTFUL.

Thank you Carole and Gary for a wonderful event. I was happy to come out and help plant for this. I loved socializing with all of those in attendance.
Just so the other boxers know, Old Blue was with 4 Freds and myself when we were looking for the triangulated box. Even though he had planted it, he had to do some compass work as well to relocate it and stamp in! It was not easy and not obvious, but we were able to find it.
There never seems to be enough time at these things, and even though ours was supposed to be Un-Eventful, I found it quite an enjoyable event!

It was my idea to use triangulation for the clue. I thought the people at the gathering should get a taste (as sour as it may be) of a common "historic" method of writing clues... quite British you know. Its always been a pain to find locations with it. Sorry for the inconvenience ;-)

What!
Aggravating as heck - YES
Inconvenient - NO

Triangulation is as old as the hills and should be taught, and learned, by anybody serious about orienteering.

Just in the 7 years I have been involved in this wonderful hobby I have seen a real decline in the use of a compass as part of the Clues - it's a little sad really.
