SAFARI MAN...Rest in Peace

November 30, 2013

It is with a sad and heavy heart that I inform you tonight that I received a call from Mrs. Glenn Bergdorf, about Safari Man. They had been fighting a strong battle against cancer and today he has gone on to be with the Lord.

Final arrangements have not yet been made but Georgette will notify me when she has them. She has his account with AQ and you can post as you like about this wonderful and caring man we have all come to love.

This community has lost a wonderful friend tonight.

I've never met him but hearing of the passing of a fellow boxer just choked me up.
Prayers for peace, comfort, & understanding.

ST-Ranger and I had the pleasure of meeting Glenn at an event. His art work was already known to us so it was like meeting a rock star of the letterboxing world. Our condolences to his family and friends.

I wrote Ryan asking about a tribute page, hoping any who would like will write a little something on it. I don't know when he will have it up, tho, and I don't know how you do it, it doesn't tell on there how to...thanks Sandy for taking the lead...Hugs to you and Chris, thanks again for all the help you provided for Glenn.

We met at the April Showers event, but I had admired his carvings long before. This kind and gentle man will be greatly missed. I am thankful to have known him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

A true prince of a fellow. We traded a few emails hither and yon, shared trail name stories. I was privileged to be hunted down by him at a DUMMB event and thoroughly enjoyed the fact that in order to exchange, we had a conversation :)

Georgette, I regret not having the pleasure of meeting you yet, and can only imagine the range of emotions and numbness you may be feeling at this time. Continue to lean on the Lord who still holds your husband and you both in the palm of His hand. There is no timetable for how long anything takes.

I'm so sorry to hear about Safari Man. You have my hugs and sympathies!

I've gone ahead and added a tributes page, so everyone can go ahead sign that.

I had the opportunity to meet him at a couple of events and you can't help but like him--I don't think I'll be alone in missing him.

Thanks to RGang for alerting me. I'm so sad to hear this. I met Safari Man at the first event we attended and he became more like family right from the start. We've sat, talked, stamped, laughed, and he even had hubby and I to his place once. A true gentleman who touched our family deeply. Rest in peace, Safari Man. You'll always hold a special place in our hearts. Every time I stomp a spider I'll smile.

We will greatly and sadly miss Safari Man. I just sat here and cried while reading the posts. He was truly a humble man and he loved talking and sharing stories with everyone. It is such an honor to have known him, shared conversation with him, and letterboxed with him. It will not be the same without him for sure, especially when reading the captions under pictures....he had a wonderful sense of humor as well. Rest in Peace Glenn, we love you!!

I have so many fun memories of that man.

Okie Dog, you and your family are in my thoughts.

We are saddened beyond words. His laughter and his true friendship will forever be missed. After an event we'd always want to click on and read his silly captions underneath the photos that he would post, they were hilliarious. He was such a joy to box with, several times he and Horse Trader would have me running after the box while they "got things set up" on the tailgate... and boy it was such a true treasure to always find one of his carves, along with a special Safari Man pouch.
We will miss you buddy, it is an honor to have called you our friend, someone who was proud of his country, proud of his family and a friend to all. Georgette and family, thank you for sharing a truly remarkable man with us, our sincere condolences, jeeves&dude

My heart is sad this morning. I met Glenn at my very first event so many years ago and he immediately stole my heart. He made me laugh, he gave great hugs, took amazing pictures and slack boxed with the best of them. He will be truly missed by me and so many others. Georgette and the rest of the family will be in my prayers. Becohio aka Becky Reed

So very sorry to hear this shocking news. I had no idea Glenn had cancer. He will be deeply missed by so many and his contributions as a Vietnam Veteran and a letterboxer and family man were great. Many extra hugs to his sweetheart, Georgette, his sister OkieDog and entire family.

I just got back from visiting family in PA and signed on to Atlas Quest...so sad to read about Glenn's passing. He was a great person, making everyone welcome with his words and actions. The letterboxing world is better because he was in it. He will be missed.
