so. found soggy logbook in woods. *this* time, i remembered not to just let it dry out and get all crinkly, i stuck it in the freezer.

now what do i do with it???

i really want to preserve this one, as the owner spent some real time making it.

A few months ago on a trip I found a soaked logbook. The L&L that I used to replace the broken box was smaller than the original logbook. After a few weeks in the freezer I took it out and it was damp but not soaked and I could separate the pages. I put a small square of paper towel between each page and put a heavy book on top. The next day I replaced the damp paper towels. It was finally completely dry and flat and I sent it back to it's owner.

We found another soaked logbook this morning. I left a temporary book and brought the wet one home. Instead of the freezer method (I used that on a sewn logbook) I took the ring off and was able to separate the pages without them ripping. They're lying on a towel on the kitchen table drying nicely. When the pages are dry we'll take it back. The park is close to home and has a few more boxes waiting to be found.

I just have to say...wow, you guys are so kind to go to that trouble with wet logbooks! We replaced one of our own over the weekend that was a sopping wet mess. I brought it home with the idea that I would dry it out but it smelled so bad that I ended up trashing it. Fortunately, it had only been stamped a few times so it wasn't a huge loss of box "history". I made a list of finders on the first page of the new logbook so folks could see who had found it. Anyway, thanks for your dedication!

i do this when the soggy logbook is handsewn, themed with the stamp bag, matches with the location,is a total package and is worth it. Now, when i found the Dollar Store blank pad with the pages falling out that was so soaked it wreaked of mold and rot and had nothing worth salvaging - i tossed it. Yes i did.
