Just heard on the radio that the nc forest service is doing a controlled burn at Halliburton park in Wilmington. At least 3 of five boxes of mine will most likely be burned. I don't have time to save them. :-(. Maybe ill get lucky

Oh, no!
Interestingly, I have seen a box survive through that. It was the strangest thing finding a box with the log it was under burned to nearly ash but the peanut butter jar it was in was perfectly fine under the rock that wasn't hiding it!

well it is really windy out here today .... so maybe just maybe they will postpone so i can get up there and pull them .... only 3 of the 5 are at risk ... there is also one other box that was just recently planted at that park that i have not gotten to find yet ... *crossing fingers* the wind will stop them ...

rescue mission tomorrow morning

They probably won't do it if there's wind. They do them in winter here, just because there is less wind...usually!

Box could still survive, depends how close to the trail they burn. I have 4 in burn zones, I tried to pick recently burned spots on purpose.

I dont think they have ever burned at this park .... I adopted this series .. they have been at the park originally for i think 3 or 4 years .... when i adopted it .. the 2 remaining boxes were in disrepair, i replaced the 2 missing boxes, repaired the other 2 and added a fifth to the end of the series.. 3 of them are on the ground in the woods 2 of them are under overlook decking so i know they will be safe ..

We had a severe fire in a local park. After fire a group of us went to Check on boxes in burned area. Surprisingly most of the boxes survived the fire with minimal damage. The key seemed to SPOR. The rocks seemed to have protected the boxes.

im in coastal NC ... there are no rocks ..... sand and pine needles ... i have to fill my backpack with rocks if i want to hide under a spor best we get is a spos (suspicious pile of sticks) which just help the fire.. the three i am worried about are hidden under pine straw or tucked under a fallen tree ... all objects that will in fact burn
