This looks like a huge amount of fun! I'm signed up for the one in Ypsilanti, MI in May. Are you going to run or walk it, or a combo? I've been working on running, but can only do 1.25 miles without walking for a bit. This is WAAAY better than when I started, but nowhere near a 5k yet.

Congrats on reaching your goal!!!

My plan is to run, but we'll see where I'm at by then. Haven't actually reach a goal, just set one I'm really excited about. :)

Go for it.

I participated in my first 5k, the Jingle Bell Run, in Seattle. I am 61. I walked part, ran part but the chaos of the race boosted me to my personal best at that time. 40:20. My daughter and I signed up together to do the Hot Chocolate Run in March. I've taken 2 minutes off my time since December. Now the crazy woman has convinced me to do a 12K in Prosser in May. You can know for sure I'll be walking part of that one. Just to see if I could do the distance at all I did a baseline run/walk. It made me feel good to see i could do it even if the time wasn't that great. Nice thing about fun runs is that it doesn't have to be.

I use the treadmills at the gym a lot because of the weather here. Last week i met another older woman who was looking toward the HC run as her first race. Her daughter talked her into it.

Rooting for you. Are you going to paint your face?

40:20 for a 5K? You are a rockstar!!!!! I did the Santa Run here in Santa Barbara but not too many people came that day - must have been because it was raining :) LOL :):) Have fun doing the HC run! :)

Ah, thanks on the explanation.

i was shocked at the 40:20 myself. totally had to be adrenalin that day. but now that I know i can do it I'm setting a harder goal for the HC run. Something to motivate me to work toward and helps with the dieting.

on the subject of diet... I'm somewhat stalled in momentum. I've been on antibiotics for a tick bite for 12 days and have gained water and not lost any weight at all.

Antibioticsx malways have an adverse effect on my weight. Once you finish your antibiotics you will most likely drop that water within two weeks so you should be right back on track! :):)

1.25 s nearly half of a 5K!! ITs all in how you frame it

Congrats on your improvement--very motivating to me

Thanks for your post! I think some friends and I are going to do the run in Augusta this October. I've done several 5K's but they haven't, so that will give them time to work up to it safely.

Thanks Mama Stork! I never thought of it that way.

I know it seems lame, but when WW came out with the 360 I decided to stop diddling around and actually do the things they said...like tracking after work too, not just during work, and adding running to my workouts in addition to walking with friends. And damned if it isn't working! #SMH

Doesn't sound lame to me--I am doing something similar.

I am focusing on their monthly habits--added fruit or vegetable to every snack or meal last month and am not making sure I never leave the house without a healthy snack. I lost 10 pounds in January and feel a bit more in control again!!

Off to pack that snack before work!

Here's a fun place to track your miles. as you walk/run, enter the miles into Ryan's new site and see the pictures of where you are and trace it on maps. You can "hike" the Pacific Crest Trail or the two he just finished in France and Spain.

I wish I could afford to join WW again to learn about the 360. We just can't swing the funds at the moment, but I continue to do the Points Plus system and it works for me. Would love to know about the new stuff though!

I don't belong to Weight Watchers either. I use my Fitness Pal and a Garmin mileage counter for my tools.

Yeh, but i use the garmin and other apps to originally record the miles. The walk for.fun makes it more amazing to.see how far ive gone if it were linear on a thru hike. Not.too bad for an ol' lady.

That's an amazing month! Yay you!! I was down 7 lbs last month, which for me is outrageous. Packing the healthy snack was so helpful, and I'm really trying to have a veg or fruit before I have a regular snack, but I'm not quite there yet...
