We've been boxing since August and have used stamps we happened to have at home and one that was purchased. I'm still working on a trail stamp concept and we haven't tried carving anything yet!

Take him letterboxing with you. :) Go find some fun hides so he can see how it all works.

Seriously, show him some of my carves, like the little red shoes. A lot of mine are fairly simple looking and not very detailed. When I was first thinking of planting, my biggest worry was what if my carve isn't good enough. And I'll be honest, sometimes it still is, but not as much as before.

I'm not from Utah. LOL.

Just tell him if he can trace a picture, he can carve. My daughter carved this... she is 7. She started with the outer image, the outline of the picture. Then carved out the small spaces she wanted left white. His doesn't have to be this detailed, some of the lettterbox stamps I see done by adults are just anchors, fish hooks, stars, simple designs like that.

He should go letterboxing before he tries making his own stamps. Give him some ideas of what is in his area. It is not that hard! Carve a simple outline of a bird.... scratch some feathers and an eye into it. Carve away the outer part of the bird. Done.

Does that mean that you used to be from Utah but aren't any more?

Pretty good! I'm try to convince him to get in to letterboxing. I'll show him some more of the stamps that I have collected. The Full Moon events are in the dark so they won't provide much as far as opportunities for this, so I'll have to show him during the next daytime event.

BTW, while we were finding caches in the dark, I found some good places to hide letterboxes. I need to figure out what to carve though.

Haha, no never even been to Utah... I just happened to see the message as it was in the "recent messages" section. But I just wanted to show, if a 7 year old can carve, lots of people can.

As for what to carve, it can be anything. For instance "Wimpy Kid" that my daughter carved would be perfect.... Wimpy Kid gets lost in the woods, let's find where he went and rescue him. Follow the clues he left behind...etc.
