So...I have been hanging out at a local cemetery for the past few weeks, getting ready to hide my plants. Went today and came across a baggie full of makeup, black makeup pencil, blood capsuls, liquid latex, horror flesh..etc.. Some crazy vampire-ish Halloween makeup! And I thought the "peace pipe" in the park was the weirdest thing I came across - until now. Would love to hear of crazy things you all found while letterboxing :)

A couple having sex... in the middle of the day. In the cemetery!

I was in Oakwood Cemetery at the time, a VERY famous, VERY historic cemetery (Burial place of Uncle Sam amongst other notable figures). While I was following clues to a box, I was standing to admire one of my favorite graves in the cemetery, one that is a crypt, and the metalwork on it enthralls me, it is also one of the top five most visited graves in the cemetery. This was the first time I thought to bring a camera. I was planning to photograph this beautiful monument while out seeking a few boxes. I heard a noise. I looked, saw a deer! A beautiful deer! At 4pm in June! I go to take a picture. I see a couple sitting there in the back of a pickup 'hugging' (by the way, this is one of the highest points in the cemetery, which a GORGIOUS view of the city below, and the Hudson river in the distance, it's an AMAZING sight).

I whisper loudly to them "look a deer". It's only then that I realized the lack of clothing! They gave me no notice... and I backed away and started back for my car... the deer though, decided to investigate the truck farther.

I was mildly amused. Mildly thought it was a tiny bit sweet.... MORE THAN JUST A LITTLE mortified though, and felt "time and place", right? Creepy !!!!! If you click the Wikipedia link I provided above, and scroll most of the way down to the panoramic view photo, that photo was taken from the edge of the road right where the truck was parked. Seriously, go look at how beautiful of a view we are talking about.

--Ringo (who gave up on finding the box that was nearby, AND failed to take a picture of said deer too)

not me, but one of my favorite stories is of the buried dead gerbil found while letterboxing in a Connecticut cemetery. There was even a letterbox and letterbox gathering commemorating this amazing event!! R.I.P. Gerbil!! Check out the AQ glossary, under gerbils: dead

Also RingoH, Princess Lea and I had the same experience although not in a cemetery in a park in California. It was a sort of stone tower or folly and the letterbox was nearby, but as we were walking up, we noticed that a couple were 'getting busy" inside the tower. Ewww

Oh cool!!! That would have made my day. I once knew some Larpers that I would run into after I got out of work, they often were larping i the alley behind my house, and most of them I would play Magic with on Saturdays. They ran a Friday night vampires and werewolves larp back around ten years ago. One of the larpers was a lawyer in real life. One of the other larpers had a character who was a bounty hunter. The bounty hunter within the game, went to the lawyer in real life to get a contract drafted that included a death clause and would be legally binding within the in game world. Did that all sound confusing? It all made sense to me at the time (and still makes sense... LoL. It's all about being a geek I guess).

I miss my gamer friends back in NH.

Half a pair of dentures in a tree.

I get a huge chuckle thinking of events that would lead to dentures in a tree....

A) Dementia patient starving for just a bite of tree.
B) Woman talking so fast her dentures flew out.
C) Older gentleman ate wife's last chocolate chip cookie.
D) ?

Larpers showed up for the Tour a Tor gathering as well. . . in the rain. Interesting day, that. Nothing like dragging your tail around in the rain, literally.

*sigh* For the umpteenth time, my intention was not to scare. There are no hot pink snakes in the world - I figured you knew that already.

Next time I'm waving two.

You might need to be logged into geocaching.com to see this:

Just read this on the "hamster caching" forum:

"I have just read about hamstercaching. So please tell me: Is it only a joke or is it true that there are people who hide real hamsters in caches? Please dont`t laugh about my question and please post serious answers. I am serious and tell you, that I have no idea about it. And I am concerned. Thank you!"

"Hampsters do very well in caches is they are placed properly.

However it is not as popular as it used to be, as the serious hampster traders have been turned off by degradation of swag (took hampster, left gerbil) "

Sheeb may remember this one....

A downed airplane being used for a civil air patrol exercise...

"Is this your plane?"

"Why, yes it is."

Seemed like the appropriate question to ask at the time....

Of course, you have the typical assortment of dead animals in various states of decay.

Cheers,

LB

THE STOOPID PLASTIC SNAKE

Hahaha! If I ever hike a trail with you I promise not to do that... although I won't promise my son won't call out to the woods "snake... ssssss" he does that...

I got a good one for you. Mind you, I'm NOT afraid of snakes (I am however afraid of RATTLE SNAKES... I know they are NOT the only poisonous snake.... but if I hear their rattle trust me, my underwear will be stained... first I'll say it, then I'll do it)....

We were in a cemetery, and there was a wooden cross, with a plastic rose on it, and there was a snake wrapped around the cross and rose with it's head on the top of the rose. Teenie, itty, bitty, tiny little carter snake (like baby maybe... the width of a pencil, and maybe six inches in length). I thought it was fake, and that the image was so cute, I pulled out the iPhone, kneeled, and got reall close to snap a picture. Never got the picture. I spooked the snake, it moved, QUICK! and that spooked me because I thought it was fake up until then, I fell over backwards on my tush! Aj of course laughed. I said "Snake son." He said "oohhh.... sssssss."

On a geocache find(sorry to share a cache find, but it is a snake story)... this story is the real one for you Tigs....
A little decon container in the hole of a tree. I pull the can out and open it. Won't you know someone shoved a rubber snake about twice the size of the can in, like a real looking rubber snake. It flew out bouncing off my chest, I dropped the can and nearly fainted. That's the cache I left my Hello Kitty travel bug in, and the person who took the bug wrote in the online log something like "It felt too cruel to let Hello Kitty sit in the cache with a giant scary snake." I laughed sooooo hard when I read the log of her travels and saw that.

-- A geocache containing "warming lotion." Ugh.

This is why I don't want to plant caches. I don't want to have to worry about what people will leave in them. We have a local cache that always gets filled with condoms and porn, and the owner keeps leaving notes about not doing this again after they go back to empty it of such items again... just retire that one already, right?

-- A beaver about 9' high in a tree. Moth and I had no idea that beavers could climb trees!

Was it still alive, or did someone put it there as a joke? I didn't think they could climb eigther.... maybe poor thing got lost?
