This is really a rant. I'm hoping someone out there can identify with my frustration.

I planted my first boxes two weekends ago, and the first one I planted has been nothing but trouble.

First I had to expand the logbook when I realized how quickly it was going to fill up. Stupid me.

Then I got several notices that I'd planted right in a patch of poison ivy. Since I'm immune to it, I never bothered to check. Stupid me.

Then I got a massive outbreak of poison ivy rash resulting in steroids for me. Hooray.

I had already decided to move the box when I was notified by a finder that there is a geocache nearby, which s/he had actually found prior to finding my box.

Well, shoot. I guess that's a bad spot for a box. Today I moved the box far, far away from the cache, which I wasn't able to actually locate myself. I then bathed in Technu.

Thanks to some assistance from a geocaching friend of mine, I was able to determine that the cache is brand new as of this past weekend. So that wasn't my fault, really.

Do I just have the worst letterboxing luck? (Oh, and I tried to find a box today that is in the same park, but came up empty after 2 hours of searching. Grrrrr.)

OK, I got that off my chest now. On to more boxes...

Oops...

I can relate..... Except for getting the poison ivy...

I have one box I'm about to move for the third time... First location compromised.... Second location... Poison Ivy decided to spread over there.... Still not quite to the box, but close... And my final location... In direct line to a geocache......

And I have another box now reported a SOAKED logbook in a brand new Lock N Lock....again....I have very bad luck with Lock n locks... This is my third failed one..

I'm sure when I move my box again, Ill get the PI. Curses!!!

Well, I was just notified that both of our boxes planted in OBX may be missing. One has been there since 11/10 and one was planted on 11/11/11. We'll be there in 3 weeks so we can check on them and hopefully, find them safe and sound.

*read this while realizing I wrote it to be humorous*

You must remember that four leaves = good luck, not three leaves....

Not only have I never had a failed Lock 'n Lock, I have a series of 5 that I intentionally planted without inner baggies. They have now lasted almost a year through rain, sleet, snow, and even tornadoes (they are in Branson) and no reports of wet logbooks yet. The most recent finder was at the end of March. I have to agree that it sounds like someone shoved an oversized HH in or something. Perhaps not true Lock & Locks? I haven't hidden any in the "Store & Save" brand that is sold on locknlockplace.com so I wonder if those aren't all they are cracked up to be?

I can laugh at it now that I'm not all swollen and itchy. But seriously, I've gone thirty-mumble years without EVER getting the rash. My father is immune to it, so I figured I am too.

Getting older STINKS. :)

Been there, done that. It was my very first box planted too. I'm a geocacher too, so I know where all of the boxes are in the area and didn't have your other problem.

That's actually a positive, you know. :)

They're locknlock brand. One that failed, I ordered online.

The other two I bought at JCPenney...one of those was due to a wire getting stuck under the flap. (I used wire to attach camoflauge sticks, moss and pinecones to it...mistake)

I figure the other two weren't closed properly....maybe I should leave the baggies out...

That brand is also manufactured by Hana Cobi and is made with the same materials and certified to be airtight/watertight. I wouldn't worry about them. Of the two brands, I've had more failed Lock 'n Locks (but my sample size is small, so that is hardly statistically significant).
