That was my first semi solo event - a 14 hour one no-less.
I think I got only half the boxes you planted because I was so diverted by the beauty of the surroundings or the distractions of the haunted. Not only were the stamps I did get amazing, but the people I met along the way were captivating. I will write an entire short story on my adventure as soon as I can. Your event proves, hands down, take a tiny little town with no boxers (let alone BOXES) plant them and they will come. I had an amazing time... Thank you so much. The historical aspect to this series, in this TINY little town is unmatched in the 4 years I've been at it :claps:

WELL DONE GALS!

Indeed Angelica was a gem of a town. The pancakes were outstanding and the company was great. It was great to meet a few boxers we've never met, to see MM and LW and the other WNY boxers. And yes Phoenix, even good to see you too. Loved the Pancakes/syrup themed boxes, wonderful carves. You took us to some pretty neat locations. Still spooked at the image in my mind of the old insane assylum. Saw two red fox, some deer, a raven and a Tom turkey challenging another Tom for his flock of hens he had with him. Loved the terrain, the surrounding creeks and such. Girls enjoyed the towns shops. Mmmmm, maple sugar candy.
GBS, can't wait to hear about your adventures.
Thanks again MM and LW for organizing and hosting such a great event

GBS, can't wait to hear about your adventures.

It started the minute I left and didn't end until I got home :) Driving through random patches of fog so thick, I couldn't see the road. Did a double take at what I thought was a Woolly Mammoth Farm, saw a random dinosaur statue in the middle of a pond on someone's lawn. Then I unknowingly left MM standing in the parking lot when I thought she was in LW's and Phoenix's vehicle.

It just kept getting better. The abandoned (haunted) County Infirmary complexes were amazing. Got some great pictures. The first one, I made sure to keep my feet planted firmly in the road and not step foot on the property with all the NO TRESPASSING signs. No sooner did I take the first photo, that I hear a voice yelling; "HEY"... Oh Crap I thought to myself. I replied to this voice through the trees "I'm not on your property, I just wanted to take a picture of the main building, it's in beautiful disrepair".

That was probably the wrong response, as this figure (complete with a limp and all) rounds the trees and tells me if that's the case, I'm welcomed to take more and go as close as I want - including inside. Mind you, I'm all alone..

Not only did I get some great shots, but then she insisted I enter her home. Ummmm. Okay.
The ceilings were caving in from water damage, the peeling wallpaper appeared to original to the house, and there were random odd things EVERYWHERE. It gets better. Within minutes, she's telling me about all her tumors, they she's holistically healing herself with hourly doses of some mixture of thyme and numerous other herbs. Convo turns to the history of the home she is in (on the property of the Infirmary and several other out buildings).

"This home has been in my family for generations. My father was a bastard. I hated that man. He was a drunk, beat me, my Mom, my brothers, etc. Then one day, when I was about 14, I knocked him on his fat 400 pound a$$ and hit him over the head with a kitchen chair. THEN I STABBED HIM."

Beginning to think I was in a real life episode of the Twilight Zone, and having nothing with me to protect myself with, all I could think of was stabbing her in the eyes with the fine point tips of my Marvy markers. I thought, "Oh no, what color do I use on her?" :O

I immediately changed the subject (after her stabbing comment) to complimenting her on her 1940's kitchen table. Darn good way to distract this batty woman who then tells me she's also an antique collector and now wants me to follow her to the barn to see more antiques. Yeah, right. Like that was going to happen. I could see me ending up hanging on a meat clever or sent to her backwoods taxidermy bldg.

Somehow I managed to get my butt out of there only to find BfloAnonChic outside (getting the box) so we hightailed it out of there... The latter half of the day and early evening, was almost as note worthy, but I'm still sitting here scratching my head wondering if it was all a dream.

Here's a few pictures :) If you use the zoom feature, you'll be able to read the captions.

Angelica, NY - Random photo's, history, and the abandoned Poor House.

Lol - clearly the answer here is whichever color you use the least. (For me, it would likely be pink. Or orange.) But only you can answer that question for you. :-)

Heh. I already had the box - I'd come back to get pics of the house as well.

Um...Yeah... I vote we go back and get that tour before the tumors she's "holistically healing" kill her and we miss the opportunity.

But oh so fun. (And weird.) I looked at the online listing of those interred at the big cemetery in Cuba - REALLY want to go back and look for that stone some more. I'll bring the drinks this time. ;-)

LMAO at this. Did you show her your devining rods? : ) Should have asked her about planting a box inside! (Extreme box for sure)
what I thought was a Woolly Mammoth Farm

You mean there wasn't one?!

That indeed is a dilemma.

And the fog was indeed fun, had to look out for the Amish in the buggys. We drove right past the dinosaur due to the fog

I didn't have them with me. Stabbing her eyes out with those would have been much more effective than the fine tip Marvy's :)

Ya know what? I never did think to asking her if she actually KILLED her father :O

I was just a total magnet for the insane as I wearing a T.A.P.S. hoodie. So much for liking the show Ghost Hunters. Look where it got me!

She came out to talk to us also and mentioned you by name. LOL! We too got invited in to see the pictures and hear the history of the home. I was nervous also! Wondering if we would ever be heard from again. Heard the story of her having encephalitis and treating herself with herbs for this and her fever when it got very high. Thank goodness she did not mention the father thing. I would have freaked out.

The house was crazy old ~ you are right the wallpaper seemed original. She told us she was a second generation of being able to see spirits and that is why she is there. To keep all the spirits safe. She talked about the large woman that was thrown out of the upstairs window in one of the fires and how the commissioner walks though her be at night on his rounds and gives her a jolt. She said the spirits can tell if some one isn't good. They will drive them away. They can't stay on the property. Have to tell you, the kids were freaking out after this visit. It was very interesting conversation on the way home.

So much more but who knows maybe we can compare notes on another day.

I have to agree that this was a great event. Loved the history in Angelica and meeting so many new people. I have also wanted to try Cartwright's and they did not disappoint! The pancakes, syrup, and homemade sausage was delicious. MM and LW the carves were well done and fun. We loved the Amish Buggies, the wooden span bridge and seeing the 100 year old post office. Of course, the county home was quite a highlight of the day. Lots of history there.

What a fun day. Thank you for you time and care in planning this great event. My only regret is I would have liked more time to explore.

Thanks again,
Helen/GH
(still shaking her head at the county home experience)

I tried to take a picture of the home, but I couldn't. My camera took a perfectly fine picture 10 minutes earlier of the wooden bridge, then every one I took of the home was all washed out. Creepy. I'll post pix after the big update.

PLEASE READ!!!! I had nothing to do with planning or executing this event. Miss Moon just mentioned me to thank me for riding shotgun to help plant about half of the boxes! Miss Moon conceived, researched and planned the whole thing. I didn't carve one single box. She chose all the plant locations. I just was there for moral support, but she really didn't need it. She did a GREAT job..and you couldn't tell that was her first planned event as everything ran so smoothly!

Moonie- thanks for the great carves and the cool places. Thanks for not putting a logbook in every box. I don't know how you managed to find so many pancake and/or maple syrup images. Thanks to the other carvers as well. Thanks for introducing me to such a unique little town. I have very little experience in that part of the state so it was cool to have a tour guide. I am jealous as heck we didn't get inside that Insane Asylum but June in the antique store did mention that "Cheryl" the current occupant, was "unique"...lol

Thanks to The Phoenix for letting me ride shotgun for the day. I told you my navigation skills sucked but you didn't believe me! LOL On the way back to my car at the end of the day we had many animals run in front of his car. First a bunny. Then a skunk. Then a red fox. The Phoenix said he was going to slow way down because the animals kept getting bigger and he was afraid the next one would be a deer and cream his car!

It was great meeting new folks and catching up with old ones. Thanks for a great weekend, Moonie! *hugs*

LW, moral support is worth a lot. I have always zoomed west on I-86 and never stopped to explore. Miss Moon, you found some great spots to lead us to. That bridge is awesome. I have one question. That angel was so little out at the asylum. Did the inmates with their problems wear her down? lol Anyway, thanks for all the work you did to put on such a swell gathering.

Can't stop thinking and talking about Angelica . Co workers, customers and family have all been filled in about what a neat town. Loved the history, the views, the stamps and of course.... the pancakes.
An event well done! . Without a wrinkle. Well done MM. GBS and I have been going nuts with getting our event together. Today we planted about a third of the stamps we have. It's only 20 minutes down the road. Can't imagine driving umpteen miles to get yours in the ground. Thanks again from the Turkey clan . Btw: craving buckwheat pancakes with delicious syrup .

OHHHHHHHHH........MIGOD...........you got to go INSIDE??????!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!! I am SOOOOOO Jealous!!! And you met a character from a Stephen King book!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Oh Oh.....I swear I'd go back just to go inside!!!

I didn't quite go inside (the house I posted pics of) but was told I could! As I walked up the porch steps, one of them was completely rotted out so I figured it best I not venture much further. I did get up to the porch and peered inside (the door is swinging open), and really wanted someone else to be with me for safety sake. I definitely want to go back to go IN. We have an open invite. I have Cheryl's full name and phone number which reminds me, I need to send her a thank you note.

Groundhogs post in this thread (somewhere) was also invited in and got the story about Cheryl communicating with spirits. Although it might seem creepy to some, I believe Cheryl does have an ability that most of us do not. She did tell me when I was there, where the burial ground is for all the paupers from the poor house. She goes up there every day to "speak" to them and sing to them. Of course, all I could think of was getting up there to plant a letterbox :)

Anyway, we are invited back en-masse. She only asked for $10 per person for her time. Believe me, this is dirt cheap and I honestly to not believe it to be a ploy for money. We have another haunted asylum in the next County over that runs it as a business. They CHARGE $1050 for an 8 hour private tour and limited to 10 people.

Cheryl appears to want certain people there. She is a talker. She likes the company. I'm certain something can be arranged if anyone is up for it. I would only caution we need to be very careful as the building is in such disrepair. I would only go in in the daylight.

If we approach her with an open mind and inquisitiveness, I'm sure we would be there all day :)

I'm game!

I had a conversation with my step mom about this place. She grew up in Belmont, so I thought she may have some knowledge about it. Turns out, he grandmother was a "guest" in that very house. She remembers grandma was suffereing from demetia and was kept in a crib to keep her from wandering off. I guess this was late 50's, maybe early 60's, and she remembers it as being an absolutely horrible place. I'm definately game for another visit, and I this she'd come along too!
