The average US cost of living seems to be 20% or so less than ours.

That may be true, but I bet it's still cheaper for you to drive cross-country than it is for us. ;o)

And I'm almost certain that one could walk cross-country in England much quicker than the United States! =)

Given the state of some of our roads it is quicker to walk cross-country than to drive :)

OMG - you're right! I'll definitely add that to my to-do list. I can see the stamp in my mind already!
