I am curious who of you plan to participate this year.

If by "participate" you mean "write 3 days before becoming hopelessly behind in word count" then YES, I'm IN!

Oh we would love to have more doing it. It's a lot of fun.
I am an unofficial cheerleader here too.

I have three characters, a title, and two paragraphs of plot...

Ethan, Bryce, and Lyndee are on their way home from school when a thunderstorm breaks overhead, soaking them. They duck into an alley that offers some sort of shelter from the elements, when the thunderstorm spawns a tornado. The tornado comes directly down the alley and scoops them up…and suddenly they are someplace else, in a totally different world, and there is no storm. They think they are just someplace else on earth, say in the Sahara, and are trying to figure where they are and how to get home.

The scientist who is working on the whirlwind space-time displacement device is very dismayed that his experiment has gone wrong an that he’s picked up three people from one planet and put them on another one. On the other hand, he’s ecstatic that the device works…but he’s got to figure out how to calibrate it better so he can control what it picks up, and where it takes whatever it picks up.

plus I'm taking a full load of college classes, plus two institute classes that I'm also going to be getting BYU credit for...if I do the extra work for them...one of my computer classes (that is supposed to take only a month) cancelled for lack of enrollment, and they moved me to the online class (that has enough work for a whole semester) and I have to finish all of that work before 12-10.

I'm clearly out of my mind to be attempting this.

by the way, the widget page on my site should be good as soon as nano activates the widgets. there's supposed to be new widgets this year, and I don't know if the code will stay the same or not, so it may take a day or so. they said their new widgets would go live on the 1st, not a week later like last year. if you're in nano and you're on the page, you don't have to do anything. if you're not doing nano and you want off the page, let me know. if you're doing nano and you're not on the page, get me your nano userid# and I'll put you on the page. I get inspired by trying to keep up with my AQ friends while doing nano.

I realize that we only have a matter of hours left, but I'm still undecided. It looks like a bomb went off in my DayPlanner for November.

Both my girls are participating, so I'm going to be pit crew for them. And I'm going to write a new ending for the book that I did last November, and that would count toward my total. After that, I may just do some editing, or I may start the sequel. I have the outline already, just not the inspiration.

We'll see.

Go to www.nanowrimo.org and click the sign up button. Be sure you set your time zone right when you're signing up.
Tell us your name over there and I will put you on the page on my website so you can watch everyone's wordcounts.
Start writing anytime after midnight tonight. If you write 1667 words daily you will hit 50,000 by the 30th. Put your current word count in every day so your calendar widget looks good. Validate your 50K word count before midnight on the 30th of November and you win!

This is so me, but I'm trying again this year, anyway. Gonna buddy anyone I can, in hopes of sparking my inner competitiveness.

I buddies you. I'm "A M Jenner" over there. Heart Writer is "Anne Marie Jenner".

and if you go over to my website and click on the nanowrimo page, there's a buncha AQ people listed there, by their "real" AQ trailnames, who are doing nano. a good place to find inspiration...or desperation...

it's a really good suggestion. for right now, their AQ name is above the widget. their nano name is on the widget. you could look at the nano name and go look them up.

most of my buddies at nano are also friends at AQ...but there's no way from that end to tell who is who...

I could make links to their nano profiles...hmmm...
I'll have to work on that after I get school and homework done for today.

romana, (trying to be as responsive about her site as GT is with his)

Ah, I think I'm getting loopy (no sleep yet)--I didn't see that. Good enough.

the competitors always overstress the site on nov 1...and crash it. they apparently don't have web gurus like Ryan who build a site that can't be crashed be a gazillion users at once. (which is how plant a letterbox day got started...it was originally "everybody list a letterbox at once and try to crash AQ day".

ooo! sparklies!

sorry. I get these mental aberrations during November. where was I? oh yes, the nano site. it almost always crashes on November 1 because everyone's trying to access it at once.
if you're not yet signed up, I would recommend this: go ahead and start on your novel. get on the site tomorrow, or more likely, on Wednesday, and sign up. it's still legal to start your novel now that it's the first. it will all count. it's just that the first couple of days on your widget will look like you didn't write anything, since you couldn't claim words until after you signed up.

am I rambling or making sense? I hope I'm making sense.

too bad I can't slide everything I write into my novel...I'll be doing a lot of writing for school.

A gazillion users would probably crash AQ if they tried to login at the same time. Fortunately, AQ doesn't have a gazillion members to worry about that problem. *whew*

Apparently, inspiration or no, I'm going to be participating this year. Due to work schedules and such, I got called to help lead a write in today. (The mother of one of our ML's passed away. If you are so inclined, please pray for him.)

And if the girls keep pestering me, I'll end up with bruises. It might be safer just to write.

Think I can be ready in three hours? I'm only 9372 words behind. :/ Fingers crossed!
