If anybody here uses a Cricut for making log books or ltc's, the Cricut Paper Dolls Cartridge is on sale at Micheals for $20. After buying it I was shocked to find out it cuts WAY more than what is shown on the back of the package. It would be really great for making lots of neat books and ltc's and cover's a lot of holidays like Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween and other stuff like Weddings and more. Here's a link that shows other stuff it cuts besides the dolls and their clothing.

No problem! The cartridges are normally so expensive, I refuse to buy them unless there is a GREAT sale and even then, I look at the images very critically to see if they will be versatile and usefull for letterboxing purposes. This one was just too good not to share with you guys.

I agree that the cartridge prices are ridiculous. Although I did see that Walmart has a line of "lite" cartridges that are $40.

Have your heard of Make the Cut Software? You can turn any image or font into a diecut using your cricut machine. No need to buy cartridges ever again. There is another one too, but the name escapes me at the moment. I am seriously considering buying it. I think it is around $70. Which is less than the full price cost of a cartridge. They have a free demo so you can play around with it before you buy it. I liked it from the little I played around with it. I looked into Cricut's Design Studio but it only works with the cartridges you already have.

I have what I am sure is a REALLY stupid question. How do you use a Cricut to make LTC's? I have never used one and have seen and heard lots of talk about them. Could someone explain how they use them. Just curious, to hear your comments and see if it's something I should look into for making LTC's. Thanks :)

How do you use a Cricut to make LTC's?

If you have the Plaintin Schoolbook cartridge, it will cut the cards out for you. You just set the rectangle to 3.5 inches and it is the right size.

You can also use it for embellishments for your LTCs.

You can use them to make LTC's in several ways. You can cut cards with them with the right cartridge; but, I use it to cut neat shapes to stamp on...

Example: Cut a traditional card 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. Use the cricut to cut heart shapes (larger than your stamp size) glue the hearts on the card and stamp on the heart.

or

Example: Stamp image is of She-Ra riding a winged horse. Cut card stock (printed with blue clouds) down to LTC size. Stamp image on card. Use cricut to cut out small suns. Glue suns in top left corner of card. Trim edges of sun to fit card.

or

Example: Make a storybook card of "The Little Prince" cut teeny, tiny letters of "The Little Prince" and painstakingly glue each letter on. This was for a small swap and was a PAIN. The cards looked AWESOME when done; but, I would only ever do this for a very small swap or single card.

Really the possibilities are endless. You are only limited by your own imagination....or what you can find on the web (which is a favorite place of mine to go to when I have no new ideas)

I should also mention that I have used the cricut to make posters for scouts/school and greeting cards. You can also cut vinyl with it and use vinyl to decorate your walls, put on your car windows for advertising and glass etching. The machine really is a good investment; but, it is pricey. I got the smaller machine when there was a great sale for $100. The smaller machine is just fine for my purposes and I don't think I could justify the cost of the bigger machine unless I was making money on my creations.

I would call first and see if an associate can check to see if they still have the cartridge if the store is kinda far away. My store still has a few cartriges if anybody feels like taking a road trip to south florida. ;)

A road trip sounds like fun, but I think I'll pass. I did call around to 5 semi-nearby stores this morning and found one store about 40 minutes away that has 1 left. Sounds like a lunchtime roadtrip to me! What I won't do for just the right birthday gift for my sister! =)

I haven't mailed it yet. If you'd like to buy me a Cricut machine I could keep it. I'd even share it with you, if you like! =)

Nice! I just got the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge with my Expression! However, you can get 10 cards from an 8.5x11 page when cutting manually with a paper cutter, which I doubt you would be able to do if cutting with the Cricut (it leaves space between each thing cut). (and you get 16 with a 12x12 sheet when cutting manually)

Just my 1.5 cents....
