Not to worry -- dear sweet Ponder broke the trail down into small hikes 1-3 miles for each set of boxes to be found :o) You can break yourself in slowly!!

Just arrived back home from an AWESOME event!! I met so many people, exchanged so many stamps, it's a wonder I didn't stamp my own logbook one time....they were all being passed around so rapidly!

Dina B had FIVE helpings of that apple stuff. I heard her say so myself. I didn't get any...it was all gone by the time I was going to look for it.

Ponder, you picked a marvelous site. Everything about it was just perfect--my best experience yet! You could look out over the lake from our vantage point and see boats, kayaks, sail boats. Just down from our spacious shelter, you could see the fishermen on the piers, and the boat rental facility was also right there at us.

People, all you guys were wonderful to meet in person. I know I tend to lurk and post rarely, but I had to post today. The grandkids and I had the time of our lives! Super S told her mom on the phone that she got 21 cooties. Mom told me, "I left my girls with you today and you let them get COOTIES???!!!!

Gonna go take a nap now...

Ponder, you picked a marvelous site.

I couldn't agree more....everything about today was great. We met a bunch of boxers that we never met before....Mama Wolf and Electric sat side by side and carved...Dina had many helping of the apple salad.......and I hiked many miles (at lease for me in one day).

Thanks again Ponder....job well done.

It was great to meet everyone! And like Medic said -- lots we hadn't met either and some "famous" boxers in our little experience :o)
I posted our little black ant box -- I plan to permanently plant it when I go back to the Linville side of the lake but here is the link for those of you who got it today!!! Check out the clue too -- short, sweet and perfect for what I had in mind for this little guy. http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=144310
Totally hate we missed the carving demo (I so can't wait for another one :o)
PONDER -- you ready for an annual event???
Looking forward to meeting everyone again soon (at an event where I can get rid of these cooties collected by my girls :o)

First: PHOTOS ARE UP !!

Friends, What a wonderful time we had today ! We were so glad that our schedule changed and we were able to attend !

80 people on the list... and I think very close to that many in attendance ! It was really difficult to get a count with everyone running around getting those Exchanges and PT's.

Lots of Friends we hadn't seen for quite a while !

LOTS of new people to meet and greet !

Lots of YOUNG Letterboxers, from TOTS to TEENS and even a couple 4 legged friends !!

Just a few tales to tell:

A of J A K ..... isn't as sweet and trusting as she looks..... I dropped my LTC Notebook. Before I had time to bend over and get it she said "Here, I'll get that for you".... and picked it up for me, placing it on the table in front of me. What a sweet girl.... so helpful and I didn't even have to ask.
IT WAS FULL OF COOTIES !!! Only in her posession for a matter of seconds.....
SHE'S GOOD !!!

The Apple Salad was good ! Everyone who tried it liked it. Myself, I had to "Try it" a few times..... Just for the record... Mouse Nanny won the cook book in the raffle.... so we KNOW she'll know how to make it for the next event !!!

WANDA of Wanda and Pete made the rounds chit chatting with everyone. She told of her hikes and some of her letterbox finds.... and of a surprise "sort of" meeting with President Obama in Montreat last week ! She said she was on the sidewalk and saw the motorcade..... just as she got to the corner, Obama's SUV came by and she exchanged a wave and a smile with the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES !

Ohana Tribe brought the "FAMOUS" cookies ! OMG they were YUMMY !!

Mackenzie, Hornicorn's little granddaughter, made fast friends ! She's such a cutie ! She sat with me for quite a while saying "ONE MORE"...holding up her ONE finger... then eating several goldfish crackers.... and saying "ONE MORE".......and having several more. I'm sure she did the "ONE MORE" thing with several guests today !

THANK YOU Ponder, for a wonderful day ! You are an awesome hostess and everyone had plenty to eat and plenty of letterboxes to find !!!!

Awwwww..............You guys are the GREATEST!!! I only did 1/2 the work to make the event such a success!........All my fellow boxers who came and participated completed it! If it weren't for all you guys, this event would have never been so special! Again....Thanks SO MUCH for choosing to come to my event! And THANKS to ALL the boxers who sent stamps to be planted for the event! They are all permanent plants, so, if you didn't get them all today, they'll be here the next time you come through Winston-Salem, NC!.........And so will I! So, if you want, drop me an AQ mail and maybe I'll meet ya! I still need to collect images of all those boxes myself!........(don't ask why........long story!)
Now, off to download and post some pics............
I stayed at the shelter the whole time so, all I have is pics of folks socializing, exchanging and eating..........I hope some others got pics on the trail that they will share!.............
Unfortunately I arrived just minutes after Janet (mom of J A K) had a run in with the law!........BEFORE the event even started!!! (you know there's gotta be one in every bunch!)............Didn't get a pic of that! And, Janet......did you have to push that tree SO HARD???
I just can't say THANKS enough!!!!!

I know I did!!
The Linville Rd area was just FULL of wildlife!!
I saw
a painted turtle
a Great Blue Heron
a Wood Duck family
a black and white duck
a school of fish
and a Cootie Monster!

Thanks, Ponder! The trails and boxes were fabulous! The weather was sunny. The food was delicious. And the company was fantastic!

There are more photos here.

The grandkids and I had the time of our lives! Super S told her mom on the phone that she got 21 cooties.

And both of them make WONDERFUL LTC's!! I forgot to ask-- how old is Super S and Foxy Girl? I just couldn't believe the work they put into their LTC's!

how old is Super S and Foxy Girl?

SS just turned 10 this month, and FG is 7. When they first started carving, I wouldn't let them carve out the image...they had to carve around it. I'm so glad I did that, because now they both prefer that method naturally.
Thanks for the kind words!

We had such a great time!! I can't imagine a better first gathering for us! Thank you Ponder so much for hosting such a wonderful event!

It was a blur at times with all the exchanges going on -- but great fun and I'm so happy to have met everyone and put faces together with trailnames! We loved seeing all the beautiful sig stamps -- and thanks goes out to MamaWolf and Electric for the carving demos! Maybe I'll put give the #6 a break and actually put some other tools to use now!

Everyone was friendly and welcoming -- thank you -- what a great group of boxers... we may be spoiled on events now! We enjoyed the boxes, the food, and all the stories! You guys really know how to cootie someone properly, lol! We thought maybe we'd get one or two... but all the little helpers really keep those bugs jumping! We had quite an infestation :)

The lake was beautiful and we loved the scenery -- the kids especially enjoyed the creek at the bridge (from the lower parking lot). It was a great place to cool off and do a little exploring. We saw lots of wildlife while hunting those boxes. I'll post some pictures once we get home.

I came back to the hotel room and *crashed*... zonked out asleep for a huge nap which is very unusual for me. I guess that's just how awesome the day was -- I second the motion for an annual event!

Tomorrow we're going to the Reynolda Village area and then to the Children's Museum before we head home -- and we will definitely be back for more weekend roadtrips :) We are full of great ideas to take home, thanks again for a truly wonderful time!

And thankfully I got an exchange with her BEFORE she knew who I was because the reaction after she looked at my stamp was something like, "You are Mama Wolf? You aren't as scary as I thought."

Has someone been telling the newbies I have horns coming out of my head or something??

And speaking of scary, Charlie was making me jump all day when ever he was lurky behind me. And when he touched me on the back, I was frantically trying to swipe off imaginary signs!! I tell you, that whole death thing before really can make a person nervous!

I just wanted to jump in here real quick before hitting the road and let everyone know, especially Ponder, how much I enjoyed the event yesterday. I can't remember having that much fun in a very long time. The new friends I met were fantastic. The food tremendous. The stamps unbelievable (where the heck did all those cooties come from???).

Thanks for such a tremendous experience. I learned a lot from Mama Wolf and EM watching them carve and observing their carving techniques and I didn't even push them for the PTs, shame on me.

Driving home with a big smile across my face and the memory of a great weekend.

Thank you Ponder for a wonderful day! No longer "in the background" - you're famous now;-)

We came unprepared and missed out on so many great PTs but we will catch 'em next time, we promise! Sadly, we also missed meeting a few folks but we will put you at the top of the list for the next event!

Happy trails to all and hope to see you again very soon!!

Since Ohana Tribe was a VA newbie, I should have suspected it was someone in VA spreading rumors to them!

OMG!! It's more than one VA person spreading the rumors up there!!

They may be quiet on the boards but they are apparently spreading the misinformation privately!! Sneaky VA folks.

Agreed. I wish I could have gone as well. I swear I will make it to an event one day. I'll have to bribe a babysitter who DOESN'T want to learn how to letterbox to watch the kids, so I can drag my hot husband. He's Asian, he'll bring the camera
