Wan't sure which board to put this on but I was curious which inks peopls like better, pigment or dye based ones. I was having quite a hard time choosing in the store because I didn't know much about them, then I read up on them, and think pigment type ones would be better but would like other opinions.

Pigment will give you brighter colors for sure. They will also won't fade. Problem is, they are very juicy. You'll need to take some sort of "blotter" with you to blot the ink if you go with pigment. Otherwise, when you close your logbook, you will have a shadow of the stamp on the facing page.

Dye inks are not as juicy and you shouldn't need a blotter, but they can fade over time. Personally, I use dye and have never had a problem with fading, but I'm pretty careful in storage of my logbook (ie. keep it dry, in a cool, dark place, etc.).

Some people use markers rather than stamp pads. Just color the stamp, then "huff" on it to moisten it before you stamp. Your breath will give enough moisture to give a clear image. Make sure you use archival quality markers if you go this way.

I have a roll of TP. Excellent blotter. So, if you ever find a log book with a sheet of TP in it, maybe I was there!

I'm in the process right now of working on a blog featuring inks and the results of a poll asking what favorite inks people like to use. It will feature a list of inks and a review from either myself or another boxer. At least that would give you an idea of what others liked and their thoughts on different inks that are available.

Look for it published this week.

I find Colorbox Fluid CHALK Inkpad is less juicy and is still a pigment archival quality ink.

I use cheapo crayols markers for stamping in the field, and have good stamp images even t hree years later. my logbook never leavs the house, though...I stamp on 4x6 cards and slide them into a photo album when I get home.

I like pigments personally, and I don't blot; I just wait a few moments before closing my book.

I find that, between stamping, reading previous logs, etc, there's more than enough time for my images to dry. I usually write myself a little note about the box and location in my logbook, so I just do that while my images are drying.

That's a good idea!... My logbook is 5 X 8 1/2 Strathmore "Sketch" book. I alternate stamping...top on one page, bottom on the next. I leave enough space to write a few comments that I want to remember and then we snap a picture of the surrounding area. The top/bottom is so that we can evenly place the snapshots in the logbook without it feeling bulky on one end. But I like your idea also... Thanks

Hey, hey, fellow Okie!!!! Great to hear your voice! I went and looked at your blog site and it was marvelous!!! Cute grandkids, darling set up, and nice looking man for a hubby, too. Congrats on 10 years this year, of marriage! Really enjoyed reading many of your posts. Especially liked seeing the aprons. I have several aprons that were from my Mom and some from my Grandma too. Just those half aprons, though. You have a beautiful selection. Just wanted to say Hi and welcome to the addiction...er hobby. Have fun.

Great idea for your logbook. I too use a Strathmore Sketch book, but the 3x5 size then transfer those pages into a larger spiral bound 8 1/2 x 11 Mead Sketch book. That way I don't have to lug the larger one with me on the trail.

BTW, I figured out we are about the same age. I was 13 when I had to sew a skirt for home economics. It turned out terrible, ha ha. Your apron looks great, and surprised you kept it all these years.

Happy Boxing,
Okie Dog
