We're going to be in the Auburn/Rochester Hillsarea this weekend for a wedding (at Oakland College)
May be able to get a day free to do some boxing....
Any recommendations for "gotta have" boxes in the not too distant area?
Thanks!

You have to check out Lunagirl's Hideaway. It's a fun walk in a great park, and a beautiful stamp. I am also partial to A Dinosaur and His Hill - somebody else planted it, but I liked the story so much that when they dropped out of letterboxing I adopted it. If you're at Oakland, the Letterbox of Piglet is really close too.

I have to agree with Trailtroll on this one. Dinosaur and his hill is a great walk with a very fun story. Letter box of piglet is a fast one. I have yet to get to the hideaway so I cannot comment on that.

Have fun there are a lot in that area.

Yeah, Lunagirl's Hideaway is a good box to get.

You have a box not too far away in the Pontiac, Auburn Hills, Waterford area called Chief Pontiac. I was about to attempt it in the evening on Father's Day, but the park was still too crowded. Maybe it won't be crowded Sunday morning. It's not hard to get to that park either. Used to pass it all the time when I worked in retail (heading from Summit to Great Lakes Crossing and vice versa).

I don't recommend Chief Pontiac at night - the park's in a slightly rough neighborhood. A couple years ago somebody questioned my judgment in even planting a box there. I think they were afraid of the whole city of Pontiac. It's not a great trail, but I wanted to plant Chief Pontiac within the limits of Pontiac, and there aren't a lot of options! It would make me a tad nervous after dark, but I feel comfortable there during the day. He was my first plant in Michigan, so I'm glad he's still hanging in there more than 4 years later. He IS a warrior!

Anywhere can be dangerous, would of been my response to them. Even some remote park in the middle of nowhere could be dangerous if the wrong person is there (or maybe wrong animal). The best thing to do is just be aware of your surroundings. That park in my opinion isn't bad, but as I just commented yesterday, People from Flint are nervous about Detroit and Pontiac and people from Pontiac and Detroit are nervous about Flint and everywhere else is nervous about all three.

One of the parks I planted at is a suburban park several miles outside of Flint that is quite nice and an awesome place to plant, but about 10 years ago a horrible incident did occur there (the guy is locked up) and there is some graffiti there as well. However, the park is nice and many people go there to walk or ride their bikes. Kids play on the playground equipment and people have picnics there all the time. The police patrol it, but mainly to make sure the pets there are spayed and neutered. I thought about not planting it there, but I reminded myself that anywhere can be dangerous, just some places might keep things more hushed.
