Hi. I just found this group and board. We have two cats. Silly we got from the pound after the death of our beloved JC from cancer. We've had her about three years I think. She is black and white, and her full name is Sillhouette Whiskers Tomato. But Silly fits her better. She is a clumsy cat, who will jump on a window sill and fall right back out. Our other one adopted us about 6 months after we got Silly. She is a tabby named Squeaky. She doesn't have much of a meow, she squeaks instead. Her full name is Squeak Whiskers Molasses. Squeaky loved on us and was so friendly when she showed up on our porch and wanted in. After we let her in the house, no more of that. She is pretty standoffish most of the time. But she is a benevolent queen of the house. The two cats do not like each other, but they have their own territories within the house, and they tolerate each other.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one whose cats have middle names! :) My two are Wheezey Nikita (Wheezey because she had a respiratory infection when we got her and Nikita because I love that movie) but we call her Nikita, and Oocla Butters. Oocla is named after the cartoon Thundar the Barbarian, his sidekick/ride is Ookla, we just spelled it wrong. :D We thought it was really funny naming this tiny female kitten the name of a giant male tiger cat-beast, but Butters really suits her personality better. We still call her Oocla though. :)

My first cat was Prince Charles Wallace. We got him around the times Prince Charles was marrying Lady Diana. He was a Siamese kitten and his coat was just starting to darken. So he was still very light cream with this DARK brown nose and ears, which made his nose and ears look ERNORMOUS. That reminded me of England's Heir to the Throne ;). The Wallace was after a favorite character in a series of books by Madeleine L'Engle, Charles Wallace. Most of the time he was Chuck or Chuggers.

My current cat is Kipper The Cat. He was named after a little dog from a series of children's books and tv show. I always said my next cat would be named Kipper. He, unfortunately, is known as Nipper or "The evil black cat beast". We found him as a kitten and he was quite affectionate back then, but his disposition has soured (don't know if it was in the genes or being around too many small children or what). I've been working with him, trying to improve his disposition, but it's a slow process. It doesn't help that he's a big boy. 17 lbs of fury when he gets mad (and yes we had him neutered, but he's not a fat boy, it's mostly muscle and he's long; he can stand on his hind paws and be almost at eye level with our kitchen counter). Much of the time, he's very loving, but he turns with little warning. The funny thing is, my husband, who doesn't like cats, likes him. I think it might be because he looks like a small panther.

Kipper

We love Kipper the Dog! Great show.

Much of the time, he's very loving, but he turns with little warning.

That's like our Squeaky, but without the loving part.

Sometimes it makes me wonder why we have cats....the only ones that I have had that will turn on a dime and bite you like that have been either female or have been declawed--or both! When I took a cat rescue class with the shelter they said that the first defense a cat has is to hiss. THen swat w/o claws, then with claws unsheathed then bite...in that order. It seems that if you take the claws away they go right to the bite stage! Is your "black panther" declawed? Just wondering if others have found the same...Terrio--destined to become an old lady with lots of (clawed) cats

No he's not declawed. He just seems backwards; bite first, then scratch, and forgot about hissing. I don't think I've ever heard him hiss. He's not real vocal to begin with. He really just started meowing this last year or so.

Hmmm--that is all I have for you...maybe he got dropped on his head when he was a kitten? LOL--that might make him backwards! terrio
