Interesting trade triangle. Did the Dodgers hit a jackpot or go bust?

Two months of Manny Ramirez...and then a fairly quick exit in the playoffs, should they manage to even qualify.

I wouldn't think that is hitting the jackpot.

I doubt Manny stays in LA even if they try to resign him at the end of the year.

Look at his OPS...it's been falling for 2 years...with Boras negotiating the contract this time around, I would not want my team to overpay for a Hall of Famer whose skills are degrading and who brings so much baggage with him.

In a division where the top two teams are struggling to be above .500 with rather weak offenses he could be the difference in making the playoffs. Once in the door anything can happen (like the Rockies surprise last year).

Anything can happen, sure.

But what happened to the Rockies? They were swept in the series.

Maybe we have a different opinion about what hitting the jackpot means....

I don't see anybody beating the Angels at this point, and I don't think anyone but the Cubs have a shot at beating an AL team in the Series, but that's just an opinion.

The Dodgers now have 5 outfielders for 3 positions, and with the injury problems in the rotation, I think the Dodgers would have helped themselves better by doing something to bolster a group that is hardly menacing with Lowe and Billingsley in the first two spots.

You make yourself better by adding a Hall of Famer to your club for 2 months, but I don't think the Dodgers made a move that really puts them any closer to a title.

I couldn't agree more. I am not sure how much Manny is going to help with their less than steller pitching.

I am just glad he did not end up on the Mets (not that they don't have a ton of issues themselves)

Yeah, who are they going to sit?

Pierre? Leads the team in SB
Manny? You don't trade for him to not play him
Andruw? He sucks but makes nearly 15 million dollars...
Ethier? or Kemp? Stats very similar and both deserve to be playing over Pierre and Andruw.

If you're talking about Manny, he's currently only in the "Hall of Whiners"! That guy has way too much baggage for a true professional. Can't wait to see him cut that mop and be corralled in by some other management. Good luck to them! Manny's real claim to fame is his bad attitude. You can call him "Mr Nohustle". Besides hitting, he's a very weak player on the field and cancerous in the clubhouse........ good riddance!

Well the Dodgers took the recent series with the Angels 2-1. Way back in the spring the Angels won 2 game to 1. That makes their series for the year 3-3. The Angels are beatable. The Cubs! Are you serious? We are talking about the Cubs here. Where's Bartman?

I appreciate your anger...and I understand that your comments are basically an ad hominem, but I think you should revisit his work defensively so that you can stay true to the facts.

He is constantly among leaders in outfield assists, no doubt helped my the Green Monster.

He has also worked very hard in the outfield to improve his abilities. He is no Gold Glove, but you should at least recognize the improvement he has made throughout his career.

You may do that right here: http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/ramirma02.shtml

Well he is batting .500 with a slugging percentage of .875 in his first two games. Maybe he will do much better without the Red Sox baggage. How amazing how Boston fans love a player then degrade them irregardless of past accomplishments and spit them out like sour milk. I used to root for the Red Sox to beat the Evil Empire. Now they act just like the Yankees. Go Rays, Go Dodgers!

First of all...the only baggage was Manny's alone.

Second...If you were actually read the numerous Red Sox blogs...if you were to actually visit the "Sons of Sam Horn"...if you were to read comments left on media websites by fans, I think you would find that the overwhelming number of them do not do as you claim in your post.

Your last two sentences seems to conflate the fandom and management of the Red Sox in such a fashion that you arrive at an utterly illogical conclusion.

Jason Bay is doing even better than Manny after 2 games...but you won't see me saying that the Sox got a better player in this deal...at least not by citing 2 games worth of stats.

Overall, I'd have to say that your post piles misionformation on top of agry rhetoric in order to create a perfect waste of bandwidth.

Regular season baseball, and a 3 game series doesn't really translate well to such pipedreams. Heh..you didn't even go 7 games!

I think your incisive commentary and in depth analysis of the Cubs speaks for itself.

Good for Jason. Maybe he also needed to get away from baggage. Irregardless of whatever Manny did or didn't do he certianly is producing given a chance to get out from under the negativity toward him in Boston. I do not know if it was deserved or not. But I doubt if the baggage was one way. And after three games he is now 8/13 for a batting average of .615. Yes it is just three games but he is trying again.

Okay so I'll get off of baseball since it is not my sport. I know college football and basketball. Can't wait for NCAAF kickoff when we can see an exciting sport instead of the slow, painfully boring baseball to watch (See it is exciting in person but not on tv).

Then stop responding further wasting bandwidth.

And just when was the last Cubs title? 1908. You think they are due since it has been 100 years? They are still the Cubs, they will find a way to lose. Just like the Red Sox did until recently. Okay now I am done with my inciteful comments on a sport I do not watch.

Peace and good luck Dodgers and Rays

I don't think you can really make the case that there was a lot of negativity aimed at Manny. When he wasn't physically assaulting members of the Red Sox on National TV....When he wasn't throwing 60 year old men to the ground...When he wasn't giving up at bats to teach the Red Sox a lesson....the team prety much bent over backward for him.

But it wasn't enough...and the split was amicable enough. Maybe you might consider his contract situation in the calculus before you make anymore poorly informed assumptions.

You can go back to basketball if you wish, but after your analysis of the NBA finals...I'm not sure that is going to be very fertile soil for you to till either.

While you are right that I am wasting resources responding to you, I would have to say that it is my own time, and not bandwidth because I think I actually bring something to the conversation besides misinformation.

But that is just my opinion as well.

For clarification purposes I stated college footballl and basketball not professional. Professional sports is entertainment. Of course my pick in NBA was as a partisanl fan since I grew up with Lakers (Jerry West being a Mountaineer) and hating the Celtics. Rather strange for an irishman.

Quote But that is just my opinion as well.

Yes we all have them and they are not wrong. My opinion is that Boston's (and New England Patriots) professional teams are ones I do not like. Your comments have certainly not changed any of those opinions about the Sox (who I used to root for when they were the underdogs). BTW, I do not have any opinion on the Bruins since I do not watch or follow hockey very much.

Anyway have a good postseason in baseball world. I will have moved on to BCS and college football.

Yes. The Cubs last won in 1908.

No I do not think they are due because I do not include notions of probability as a factor when I consider baseball.

You simply continue to make uninformed comments.
