I have a letterbox in a flower garden, under an overturned flowerpot. It's not exactly my garden, but is right in front of my house. I call it 'letterboxer bait' because of all the exchanges I've been able to make because of it. http://www.atlasquest.com/boxes/showinfo.html?gBoxId=71478

Worst problem? Insects like to hide under the pot, and come racing out all in every direction when the box is disturbed. Lots of screaming and jumping around doesn't quite meet the stealth guidelines. However, it let's me know that someone is there! Neighbors haven't paid much attention to it.

Hi, JLB-

Funny you should ask this. I was just thinking yesterday about doing one at the corner of the picket fence at the end of my front garden and was wondering if that was a done thing. Do you have one or are planning on one?

No, but I had been thinking of it - sounds like I'm not the only one.

The only problem is that I'm not exactly on the beaten track - about 300 miles north of the NYM and 700 miles or more north of Dartmoor!

Cheers, Desperate Dan

PS, That's actually a lie - I'm in a hotel at Gatwick at the moment, hoping to find enough time tomorrow to pop over to Essex and pick up a few letterboxes before flying up to Inverness.

Good idea, Desperate Dan!!!

Essex would like you to visit their letterboxes. You can even 'find' yours! ;-) Perhaps I should have gotten my garden letterbox done sooner than later!

Hi UKUSA,

I had a great day in some lovely countryside - you've picked some lovely peaceful places for your boxes - I particularly enjoyed walking round the community woodland & Crowsheath nature reserve. It's hard to believe they're both virtually desterted while hordes of people are just up the road at Hanningford Reservoir.

Sadly, I ran out of time & had to head back to teh airport, so I'll return to finish off the USA wildlife trail at Hanningford & the 2 boxes in Billericay. I'm down in London every now & then so I'm sure another opportunity will come.

Cheers, DD

LOL! Yes, I'll visit!!! We were just talking about that and I mentioned that it would have to include letterboxing too. Well, you and I know that is the MAIN reason!

Hi, DD-

I was wondering if you made it down. I'm glad you had such lovely weather too. I'll have to check on boxes and make sure they're in good shape for your next visit... not to mention, I'll have to get to work on my garden box! Can't wait to find out which ones you found.

Take care,
Ukusa

Yes, I have letterboxes in my garden both for my mother's enjoyment, (The Daleswoman) and for any letterboxing visitors I have. I don't list them as traditional boxes though because people can't find them without coming into my home. I have them listed under 'Others'

Well, JLB, you inspired me and I've planted my very own garden box!! http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=85323 Since it's in an easy location to change, I've decided to do a revolving stamp that changes with the seasons (Yorkshire Tortoise's personal traveller gave me the idea!). During holidays, there will be a bonus stamp. We don't get a lot of LB traffic over here in England, so it'll be interesting to see how well received it is. I've been going with the 'plant them and they will come' theory and slowly they are. My *Mini Madness* box has a local fan club of at least two young families that every month they come check on it and sign in (no stamps yet). They even have their dog stamp in with a paw print!!
