Displaying Periodic Table LTCs
Board: LTC: Trades and Trackers

Thread (disabled) Board
I believe someone recently posted about how to display the LTCs of this fabulous ring. Did I just dream that up? I didn't see responses, but am curious as to what everyone has in mind.

I was thinking of arranging card jackets in the periodic table configuration on poster board and then inserting the cards in their proper places. That way I can easily take them out to look at them, or at their backs. I would hang the whole thing (framed?) on the wall of my 'study' where I do my crafting. (I knew there was a good reason for not decorating this room that I've had now for 8 years! Not one thing on the walls yet.)

So.......what are YOU going to do?

Would this be the right size, or too square? I dig this idea a lot and will probably use it for something.

Or what about This: http://www.sevengypsies.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=17914&cat=338&page=2

These 7 gypsies people sell a lot of ATC display stuff, spendy, but if you shop around a bit you can get a good price. I think I am finally going to get the cards that fit the spinner I got for Christmas, and then paperclip LTCs to them with the fnacy circle cards, or somehow nattach them. There are also little sleeves to attach to the spinners, and I would reckon if you looked hard enough you could get little books made of the sleeves. How I ever lived without the itnernet and weird little independant art stores around town . . . . .

I'm planning to mount them between two large pieces of pexi glass in the same formation as the periodic table and then hand it in my classroom.

We are taking them to our high school and hanging them in the Chemistry room... the teacher there is a good friend. She was my teacher, she is now my daughters.

I haven't decided how to display them, but I'm doing some serious thinking about it. I have a wall in my living room...... our "decor" is eclectic at best (to put it politely), so I've just started putting up stuff I like and to heck with everything else ;-))

I'm wondering if a poster frame will fit them - something where I can access the back to arrange them like the periodic table. Guess I need to lay 100 cards out on the bed or something to get an idea ;-))

I like that spinner thingy on that 7 gypsies site, but they are rather proud of it. I could probably stand the price of the spinner, but it would be another $30 or so for the little plasticy things. Wondering if those are standard Rolodex size.... oh, I guess that's what that punch thing is for.........

Well, I still like the idea of putting them on the wall. I know my comic book store guy has these poster frames that he gets from Ultrapro, that's a possibility.

I'm talking to myself - woke up early and couldn't go back to sleep, darn it.....

What a great idea, It woud take at least 2 poster boards, these cards would really work to teach us all something out in the open like that, and I'm a real stickler about wanting to be able to take my cards out and hold them, this woudl fix that problem too.

We were just talking about this over dinner last night. We worked out if we arrange all the cards in the same pattern as the table it will end up being about 45" x 35". That's pretty big! May have to rethink our wall space a little.

I'd love to be able to display them on the wall, but I'd still like to have access to hold them if I want, and I'd like to be able to see the back too. The Plexiglas idea isn't bad. I wonder if using a small amount of clear glue to stick the plastic sleeves to Plexiglas might work?

I just finished up our last "mendelevium" cards last night. Phew... who knew 100 was so many! Can't wait to see all the rest of them.

99 LTCs on the wall, 99 LTCs.
Take one down and pass it around, 98 LTC's on the wall...

The type drawers come in all different sizes and shapes. My mom has one that is probably only 24 x 18 inches, and she hung it up and keeps all the teeny little things one collects in a long, busy life: thimbles, charms, milagros, etc. You could probably find one that is close to the desired size for an LTC collection.

I do have to say that I am very happy my sister got me the ATC holder because I would have never started with LTCs if I didn't feel a compulsion to use the darn thing to show my gratitude.

And, yes, I have seen them used to display 4x6 photos, all decorated to show the "Twelve Days of Christmas" and other poems, as Rolodexes . . . . I need to figure out where to get the punch for it locally, though since I imagine postage on a heavy tool would cause fainting here at the computer. I want to punch leftover cardstock and then attach my cards to it so I don't have to punch the actual cards.

I betcha a regular Rolodex spinner that lays the cards lanscape way could be jerry rigged to display LTCs mounted to the little cards somehow. You can pick those up at thrift stores sometimes, and they have punches for those at office supply stores for about $6.

If it wouldn't give away the contents of cards, it would be cool if we could do some sorta photo album to show and tell how people keep their collections.

Is it a different shaped punch than the office supply stores? I LOVED my Rolodex, back in the day when such a thing was actually USED - way before MS Outlook and email ;-)) I like the idea of jury rigging a rolodex ;-))

I was looking at poster frames at ACMoore today and they were between $20 and $40 (or $10 and $20 with a 50% coupon ;-)) - but looks like that may be too small? How about two hung next to each other, horizontally?

The Periodic table is 9 elements high, and 18 elements wide...

IF you arranged 18 card pages together, you could put all the elements in the correct arrangement and hang the full display on a wall. You would still be able to access individual cards, too. Of course, there will be empty slots due to the shape of the table. You could leave them empty, or cut them away if you wanted.

This is how I'm going to display them in my classroom. I can't wait!

It is a one hole Roledex shape. They only sell two holes at the office store and it looked too hard to break. The spacing on the spinner is all wrong for Rolodex cards, probably by design (grumble grumble).

Grumble indeed! Is the office store one open ended - i.e. can you poke the edge of the card into one punch only? Put the top part of the card into the bottom part of the Rolodex punch...... so it won't reach the top part..... essentially using it as a one hole punch.

That probably makes no sense, I've had no coffee this morning........ going to remedy that!

Night owl, night shift, or insomnia?

I'm wrestling insomnia these days, but did get to sleep about 1:00. Had to get up at 5:30 to get Foxy boy off to his last day of school - I'm off work this week, so Dad the Muggle Fox took him. But of course dad is not able to wake him up, make him get dressed, pack a lunch and make sure he takes his backpack with him....... :-P

That has nothing to do with LTCs.... but I'm gonna mail two swaps off today and log some in.... I'm still behind. Darn cable internet access company!

Where do you plan on putting it? At the bottom? They probably won't even notice it there. Put it at the top and say it is light He, like heavy H. You know....UPsidasium.

Or a small glue dot?
