My 13 year old daughter finished up time-wise about 3 weeks ago. She still has a little curriculum to get through, which she'll guilt herself into accomplishing by the end of May. My son, her twin, on the other hand... well, let's just say he's motivationally challenged. He has pretty much the same curriculum to finish up plus about 200 hours. All of which means, she has a much more flexible schedule than he does and gets to include some extra fun studies in what she does. He's nose to the grindstone and MAY get done by the end of June.
As for me... I'm putting off going over the "homeschool Tracker" stuff to see if I can realistically use it.
Still, May is birthday month for us (the littlest's day is two days after her siblings'), so it's usually this slow wind down kind of thing for us. ;)
Vive le summer!

I've used the homeschool tracker for the last 3 years, but mainly just for the different reports you can print out like report cards, time spent on each subject, field trips, etc. I'm thinking about trying to find a different program to use though. My actual daily lesson plans I just wrote down in a 3 ring binder. That was easier for me then trying to figure out how to do it on the homeschool tracker.

Does anyone have any advice on what's a good program to use for report cards?

You may want to ask this question on the Faculty Room board. The teachers there may have more suggestions that are practical.

Wow, you guys are on the ball! I'm making us continue for about 6 more weeks (with one week off for my b-day). We won't be done until the 2nd week of June. But with a baby due in August I figure we'll be having a long summer :)

mine will finish up her last curriculum on the 15th...she's done with everything else. Arizona doesn't make us count hours, so we don't. I tell her as long as she's learning the material, I don't care if it takes her half an hour or five hours, she stays in front of it until she's finished. she has half-days most of the time.

I use an excel spreadsheet for lesson plan and report card. the first sheet has dates, a place for a calendar, the assignment for each subject, and a spot to put the score from that day's work.
the second sheet collects the scores and averages them for a weekly grade, so every friday she has a good idea how she's doing in each subject. the third sheet isn't linked to the other two, it just has my grade scale so I don't forget which scores go to which letter grades. the fourth sheet is the report card and pulls the average score from each term. at the end of the term I go to the report card page and type in the letters, then compute the gpa. couldn't be easier

LOL you all are freaking me out again. I figured if the kids got the work done then they were done! wow I have a lot to learn.

The HomeSchoolers Conference in Michigan is this weekend but we decided that I will not be going this year because we don't have the money for it. Now I have no clue what I'm doing AND changes in our family are leading to the greater possibility that I will also begin home schooling my 13 year old within the next year. It was one thing to start with a kindergartener but now a middle schooler!?! There are so many other things I have to figure out regarding home schooling him. My Head is spinning.

Congrats to everyone who is almost finished, Job well done!

first, breathe.

second, don't worry about hours or report cards unless your state requires you to keep track of them

third, figure out what classes your kids can take together...the middleschooler could help you with some of the kinder's stuff...teaching is one of the best ways to learn things

feel free to aq mail me any time you need a helping hand

romana, just finishing third year of homeschooling middle/high school

Thank you. I just have so many questions, I have a friend who started this year and every time I ask her a question she just says "I Don't Know" Searching online is so overwhelming but I read this board every time there is something new and when the time comes I know where to ask.

We don't finish up until mid-June. Since we are doing an ISP connected with a school, we are on their schedule. But we have a week off in about a month for an out of town trip/giant field trip so it will break it up nicely. I'm finishing the last math block up this week, then language arts and then trip (social studies) and then back for year end review.

Good stuff.

Here in NY we are to accomplish 900/990 hours of instruction depending on the level. BUT, the law states that it is those hours or "the substantial equivalent" which in one-on-one is a lot fewer hours. We do count the days and that will be done in a couple weeks. I start our "schooling" July 1 each year including all of our summer activities because I'm really good at finding something educational in what we're doing!!! I've also found that having a maintenance schedule through the summer helps keep them from forgetting EVERYTHING they've learned! We might do 45 - 60 min. a day with no more than 15 min. on a subject, mostly just review items like Daily Grams, flash cards, etc. Of course, then we have the all important letterboxing that must be added in for reading directions, compass work, hikes, history, carving, making books, planting boxes, photography, trip planning........... :-)

I have about 5 weeks left to teach as well. We usually are done by mid May but we didn't get started until October this year. We were in the middle of a move at the time so we had to push the start back...and obviously the end back as well. We are getting excited about our fun summer vacation so that is motivating us to stay focused:)
