It has been inactive for a while due to some forest thinning that happened in the area. Now it appears there is zero chance it will come back at the same location. I haven't decided whether to resurrect it elsewhere. Anyway, thought people might be interested in this article about that location closing:

Holy smokes! Can't believe I missed all that entirely when I was out there! I went very early in the morning and it was beautiful! I loved that series and the location (I reached box #100 there), but I was the only one that that quiet morning. It's rather sad that it's been ruined.

I am sorry that you have had to move it. Those were amazing carvings and I did not get a chance to get the entire set. It is sad that some people have ruined a beautiful area for the rest of us. That was my first long hike. Actually that might have been my first finds. I went with Rock Star to find them but don't remember if I logged in the log book. I just went because I wanted to see what this letterboxing thing was all about. I never logged them on AQ because I was planning on going back to get the entire set. I was hooked. Thank you.

Please replant some where.

When I heard that the woods would be thinned and you would be removing Furry as in Freedom, my 2 boys and I went out there to get those boxes. They were terrific and we loved the trails. I was able to turn a simple hike and letterboxing into something so much more (learning experience) because of the history that is in and about the area...old farmers home, old crop fields, etc. It was an amazing day and we had such fun.

Too bad there are such nasty people out there that do such acts in public!! "Get a room" is what I say...

Please think about replanting elsewhere for those that didn't get to find the series before, they are terrific carves (even though I had to have my husband explain some images to me ;o)). Hey...what about Hagen Stone?? Plenty of planting op's.

I don't have any lack of places to plant. It's time to get out there and do it that has been the rare commodity of late. Of course on these particular boxes, i first need to find the proper kind of index card binders so i can restock the logbooks.

I was just reading the article this morning and noticed something that struck me as funny.

Recently, two male enforcement officers wore civilian clothes and walked the trails. Within an hour, men had solicited both officers for sexual acts.

The commission will block the parking lot with a cable. It will likely open the parking lot for hunters during hunting season, Harrold said.

I suppose men don't go up to men with guns to solicit them!

Dang it. I had planned to go to the Audubon birdwatching area to see eagles. I wasn't aware that it was gone. I guess I'll just have to go to Landsford in SC now. Thanks for the heads up. Sorry about your box.

Hey Turtlelove, isn't this the trail that we met you and your boys and did an exchange? We had also heard about the tree thinning and took off to get the boxes before they were pulled. Just a neat trail, now nobody will get to enjoy it :(
