could you explain how to do this on Micrsoft Publisher? I'm sitting here tinkering with it and I cannot figure it out. Thanks!

For Publisher 2002, right click on the picture and choose Recolor Picture, for color, select black and Recolor Whole Picture. Click ok and you should have a black and white picture!

At least that's how I did it :)

In newer versions Publisher right click the image and then go to Format Picture. Then there is a tab for Colors and Lines. The image section is probably set to Automatic. Choose greyscale or black and white. Usually black and white will be what you want. You can also adjust the darkness to show deeper lines or lighter for viewer lines etc.

The Format Picture command is also available on the toolbar if you want or you may even see a seperate toolbar for your image show up once you click on the image. The format picture icon looks like a paint can and a brush.

let me know if you need more help.

I can't get it. I can make my picture balck and white, but I can't make it be an outline like a coloring book page. I think I have the 2000 version of Publisher, so maybe it's different. Thanks

I'm using Photoshop Elements, but what I have to do is make the picture black and white, then play with the brightness and contrast until I get what I want for the stamp.

I always have trouble with the greyscale portions of the picture. Sometimes the grey gets eliminated, and sometimes it gets converted to black. Sometimes I'd rather etch a thin line between the grey and the black to show that there is a difference between the two elements.

I have also tried carving thin lines in a cross-hatch for grey, but that really doesn't look good at all.

In Photoshop Elements, there is also a Filter called "Stamp" (I think)... should be much easier than fiddling with the other settings.

There is, but I've never been happy with the results I got using that.

I use the PhotoShop Stamp Filter to change my original photo to b&w for stamp carving and it works great :) I'm on my 4th iteration of my signature stamp - since I'm still working on getting the letters right. I'm excited for everyone to see it one day at an exchange :) !
