I don't think he is walking from that village, that is just where he is staying now. But you never can tell with Ryan!! LOL Today he went to a village called Mto WA Mbu where there are safari camps....and then it looks like he was around Tarangire National Park which appears to be a safari type area. Currently he is at another area on the map that is identified as a Massai village. So he is doing all his safari stuff and touristy stuff before climbing the mountain.

Tanzania is eight hours ahead of us.
Tanzania observes Eastern Africa Time all year. There are no Daylight Saving Time clock changes.
That means, when we Spring-ahead, Tanzania will be seven hours ahead of us.

Is there anything similar to Google Maps mileage scale?
I think I've tried every icon and can't seem to find one that shows how many feet or miles to the inch.
But if you'd like to follow my progress, the URL is https://maps.findmespot.com/s/08MD

There is a little ruler. You can click between points. In The photo you can see it is 2.53 miles. Between the points I selected

Thanks Amanda.
Poor Ryan, slackpacking and has to move at someone else's speed.

I'm eagerly awaiting his journal entries.
Seems like the AQ gremlins are behaving while Ryan is away.

Wassa gremlins..

Hey, I have been EXTREMELY well behaved! It has taken every ounce of ennui I could muster to maintain this elevated level of lethargy and advanced lassitude. Be thankful.

Carry on, good sir… or not, as the case may be.

I have no idea why it would have recorded that. Nothing particularly interesting happened there. Took a short break after that exhausting climb (the day's hike started at about 2:00am), then pushed on to the summit. Success! Really too exhausted to enjoy it as much as I should have. Yesterday was super brutal.

But I'm alive and well and never have to do that climb again!

I thought for sure that the "movie" was going to be Ryan's GoPro footage of his backpack as it tumbled down the mountain.

Ryan, have you hiked the whole trail? I'm expecting that you haven't done it in one trip, but have you completed one segment at a time?

Ryan has hiked it start to finish as a thru hiker at least twice. I believe in 2003 and 2015. Check out his other site Walking4fun it has many of his hikes that he has turned into virtual hikes. It is a great way to record your steps/hikes/walks and seeing so much of the world most would not otherwise see. Ryan is an awesome person who creates many ways to improve the lives of so many beyond AQ!!!

Ryan has hiked it start to finish as a thru hiker at least twice.

Twice was more than enough. Actually, once was more than enough, but I didn't have W4F the first time around and therefore didn't take the necessary photos to add it as a route and everybody kept wanting me to add the AT. So the first time was for "fun", but the second time was just for "work".

A third time... there's no good reason to do it a third time. Too many other trails to hike!

Well, there was no good reason to hike it the first two times either.

So, when should we expect the third through hike?
