Funny you mention this... it wasn't the first food-on-a-stick, but certainly the most colorful: shish kebabs were invented by the nomadic warriors who lived in the middle east. Thing was, they didn't use STICKS... they used their swords.
As it was not uncommon for them to be right in the middle of eating a meal when they were called off to battle, they didn't even have to leave their food behind.
Just imagine facing off against a bunch of these guys sitting on their horses and licking their swords...
Aside: the human body is not meant to live without meat, especially in the years when your brain is developing. I think my son's gotten smarter since he finally started eating red meat. Yum.

Got to love the useless trivia information you can learn around here (LOL)
The visual to this is just too funny... Coffee out the nose isn't a nice feeling so early in the morning.

If you like blackberries, you ought to visit out here. There are parts of the west coast (including the Willamette valley in Oregon where I live) where the blackberries are everywhere! In fact, a bunch are coming over my fence from the street side and taking over my garden.
When they become ripe, we just go out and pick them free. (We always avoid right next to roads because of spraying and, well, just yukky exhaust being on them.)
When I was married, my ex would run out in the neighborhood and pick some berries while I made pie crust. Fresh blackberries in fresh blackberry pie — does it get any better in the summer?

*wiping mouth and looking guilty*
I remember when I was in the 1st grade, we lived in Durham NC, and there were wild blackberries that grew at the edge of the complex's park. My parents and I went out and picked a whole mess of them, brought them in, washed them, and rolled them around in a bowl of sugar! Ummmmmmm, those were the days!! :)

The big question is -- where do you buy limburger nowadays? I get it for my dad as a treat once in a while, but I have to drive almost two hours to "Grandpa's Cheese Barn" to get it. they just don't sell good stinky cheese at the grocery store! :-P

No, you've ALL got it wrong. Carnivores are GREAT! They have a lot of tickets and cotton candy and I especially love the ride where you spin around for 5 minutes and then throw up...that is the MOST fun!
The ("oh, come on...why on EARTH would they be talking about meateaters?") Sprite & the ("carnival...carnivore, I'm the guy eatin' the FOOD") Highlander

LOL, I wish I did. They set up a site under a tree near the gate and actually sold out that day. Amazing.

I've seen Limburger at the local Publix grocery store here in Florida
I remember my husband (who isn't from around here) was looking at the cheese one time.
He picked out a package of Limburger. and I said, "Uh, honey, you don't want that. I hear that cheese really stinks"
And he starts to open up the package to find out! Fortunately, I was able to stop him.
So we didn't get kicked out of the store
