Maybe someone should tell the Letterboxing Police.

Or perhaps we want people to look for our boxes and use an alias to out a bonus box that really isn't there.
Muuahahaha....

Being a relative noob I have no idea what this means. 🤪

From the glossary: bonus box:

Similar to a regular letterbox, except that the clue is planted in another nearby letterbox. Most letterboxers call it a bonus box only if the clue does not move from box to box, such as the cuckoo clue. It's considered bad form to tell others where the clue for a bonus box is.

The initial message that started this thread (if I remember correctly) was about someone mentioning that there is a bonus box when they logged the parent box (where the clue to the bonus box is located). Sometimes this clue is made difficult to find. The comment you are asking about is suggesting that there is a bonus box clue in a box when there is none. This would cause some people to "puzzle and puzzle until their puzzler was sore."

Ahhh, OK I got it now. In addition to not knowing some LBers made the bonus box clue hard to locate I also conflated the second post (about mysterys) with the OP.

All better now, thanks Oberon_K!

In addition to not knowing some LBers made the bonus box clue hard to locate [...]

In all but one of my letterboxes where I have put bonus clues (hint to local boxers), I have taped the bonus clue inside of the container. Some you read from the inside of the open box and some from the outside. They are easy to see though; it is not like I hid these. Nevertheless, there have been only three different letterboxers find my bonus boxes, and there are at least that many bonus boxes.

The one remaining bonus box had a hidden clue. I have been asked about the clue by two different letterboxers, and I know that at least one knows exactly how to find the box. (It is simply a matter of perspective.) However, I won't say how many have found it.

Funny story...
When we first started I read a thread on the boards here wherein folks were sharing their stories about boxers not finding or seeing the clues to their bonus boxes. Eventually we put out a series that I thought would be good for a bonus box. Remembering the aforementioned thread, I constructed a box in such a way that there was no way you could get to the stamp without having the bonus box clue basically slap you in the face.

Guess how many people have logged the bonus box? No really, guess...

Okay, the obvious numbers are zero and one.

8675309.

I bet I was close. But, if I wasn't, I will point out that that is the largest twin prime member known to be in the lyrics of a popular song. Even more importantly, I've been cited in a math textbook for proving this fact, which I did within a week of the song charting.

Even more more importantly, I've stood waist deep in chlorinated water with barely dressed hot chicks all around, while watching said song's songwriter perform said song (this sentence prolly wasn't so politically correct, but that's ok, I guess -- where are the PC police, LB police, AH police anyway?)

And you think you have problems with your bonus boxes. You should walk in my shoes for a day or two and live my problems (ok, full disclosure, I did see the words "troll" and "sardonic" in this or related threads :))

Just the Friday Distraction. Carry on with whatever important discourse I so rudely interrupted, and may the ** police descend on me in quite an aggressive manner.

You would be correct, sir. Zero, zilch, nada. Goose egg. Not one person who has opened the box and been confronted with the big ***ATTENTION BONUS BOX*** placard has logged the bonus box. It’s funny too because it’s not like it’s far away. You can open the box, read the clue, look across the meadow and see where the box is as described in the clue. No memorization or nuttin’.

The forbidden words have been written twice! Write not thrice, for it is said that a Team of Green Dragons will emerge from the mists of time and descend upon the boards. Their flames still smolder upon lists of yore!

If someone finds my box and does not log the bonus, I ask if they found it. Most ppl say yes but... Some say they didn't write down the name/# and couldn't find it on AQ. Others said they completely forgot about it. Etc.
