So does having it on a stick make you feel less of a savage or more of one?

I don't think savage has anything to do with it. Every food tastes better on a stick - everyone knows that! :)

Someone I know is having a potluck but everything has to be on a stick! His name is Mad Martian Mike and he likes the strange and fun.
I'm thinking of bringing salad on a stick. A couple of pieces of lettuce, a piece of celery, a piece of yellow pepper, maybe half a grape tomato.
I'm thinking, yeah.

I don't know - an 8 hour drive by myself?? There had better be a heck of a lot of bacon! :) I did look at the list of who is going to be there - there a lot of boxers there I would love to meet. I'll definitely think about it.

Well I have to make a trip back home some time this summer So I should just let it be then. I can leave the kids with grandma and head on up. It would only be a 5 hour drive from NE PA

There Is more than enough stuff to do around here (Buffalo/Niagara Falls) to really Make a vacation out of it! And I am positive there will be a alot of people coming that haven't added their names yet! I know that this is going to turn into an all weekend event. The Main event will be Saturday But there will be things going on ALL weekend!! I am so excited. I know Sprite is waiting till after school is out to really get rocking on the planning! I have already reserved the choice shelter in the park for the event!!!!
Here is a couple links where you can check out the park!

My son is like this about potatoes. Has been ever since he was an infant eating that mushy stuff in jars - he would eat anything out of those jars, except something that had potato in it. Occassionally he will eat some McDonald's french fries (yeah, right, like there's actually potato in those - fried grease more like it !!) but that's it. No mashed potatoes swimming in butter, nothing.
I can't eat raisins. I have been known to choke down a few to save embarrassment in a social situation, but that's it. I don't even like to touch them - in fact, I don't - I buy my kids the little boxes, so I can hand them a box. I can't eat trail mix with raisins - if it's touched a raisin, it tastes like raisins. *shudder*
Mama Fox - Raisin free and lovin' it!!

Husband is lacto/ovo vegetarian. We check everything for hidden gelatin, (some energy bars, yogurt, sour cream, many dips, etc) he only cheats when it comes to some cheeses with animal enzymes. Wife, on the other hand, loves rib eye and bacon, but eats very little of it. We love Mexican, Indian, and Thai foods. We're blessed that we work well together in the kitchen, but Husband admits that I'm the "Culinary Queen", so he chops and I wok!
Notes from a meat eating wife: I only cook meat in one small cast iron skillet, on a camp stove outside on our porch (we don't have a bbq yet). I will call friends and ask if they'd "like to go eat meat with me?", and sometimes I get uniquely cranky in a way that my wonderful husband will ask if I need to eat some meat!

My mom cooked cow tongue once & I loved it, but I guess nobody else did cause we never had it again.... Every once in a while I try telling my kids it's really really good, but they never believe me.
(and of course the boy won't eat anything that has a face anyway....)

In high school, my boyfriend's granmother made him a tongue sandwich... with the tastebuds still on and everything (they were a mexican family), and it totally grossed BOTH of us out... I never eat anything that can taste me back!! Yucky... I do not eat anything that can see me either... no eyeballs on anything! Yucky!!!!

Oooooo, that sounds pretty cool! I'm wondering if that might be the way to get my 6 yr. old to eat more green stuff! He is strictly junk food, quesidillas, chicken nuggets, and fruit ( thank goodness! ). His favorite fruit HAS to be Kiwi!
I have been trying to go veggie for almost a year now, but my steak fetish seems to be holding me back! LOL!!! That is the one meat that I like. I don't really care about hamburgers, or stuff like that, just steak. I HATE chicken, don't like seafood all that much, and have never been that big on pork ( although I do like some crispy bacon on occasion! ). The steak seems to be the only thing that keeps me completely vegitarian! And, I have been able to go a couple of weeks without it, but that's about it!

Living in Gresham, Oregon means that right now I can get an entire FLAT of strawberries that have only been out of the fields a couple of hours. We got a flat on Sunday, had some with dinner, some as strawberry shortcake for dessert, sliced strawberries and bananas for breakfast, whole strawberries for lunch, and sliced strawberries for dinner.
Now it's time for a new flat :)

Funny you mention this... it wasn't the first food-on-a-stick, but certainly the most colorful: shish kebabs were invented by the nomadic warriors who lived in the middle east. Thing was, they didn't use STICKS... they used their swords.
As it was not uncommon for them to be right in the middle of eating a meal when they were called off to battle, they didn't even have to leave their food behind.
Just imagine facing off against a bunch of these guys sitting on their horses and licking their swords...
Aside: the human body is not meant to live without meat, especially in the years when your brain is developing. I think my son's gotten smarter since he finally started eating red meat. Yum.
