Help with LBNA search

Ok, so LBNA was the first site I found when I googled "letterboxing", and is responsible for getting me pumped and teaching me the ropes….but I've never been able to search the site.

I try plugging in "Morganton NC" (the closest town to me of any size), and it sends me an error message saying "Sorry, but I don't understand that location. Error Type:". If I try "Hickory NC", I get listings for Hickory and Morganton, so I know Morganton IS in their system :/

I tried listing my own box on LBNA, and I think it got swallowed up - I can't find it anywhere.

I just can't use the site. Any helpful hints?

I think they are having website problems, which is why there is a fundraiser going on to update the site right now.

I think not all towns are in there, so searching by nearby cities is the way to go. I can find Tampa Fl, but not Palm Harbor FL, for example.

I can find boxes I listed by clicking letterboxes, my letterboxes.

If you are LittleHootCP, I found your box called NC Wildflowers in Valdese. Is that the one? It is listed as placed as May 21, so maybe you need to change the date to make it show up as a new letterbox. But I can see it if I look under your name.

With LBNA, we have always found it useful to search by counties. If you search by the county in which Morganton NC is located, you will hopefully get that city as well as all the neighboring cities in that county.

Ok, thanks for the help! And thanks for letting me know my plant IS there…I was going to post it again, but suspected I would be double listing :D

Try adding a comma between city and state. That seems to help.

The location based searching is a bit broken and is at the top of my list to fix. You can find your box by using the bottom part of the search page by entering state and city.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this as well, but it appears that in a location-based search, some boxes are excluded. Most of these appear to be newer boxes which have entered an additional descriptor such as a street or landmark in addition to the city and state. It is difficult to get these boxes to appear in a search.

For example, this weekend we visited North Attleboro, MA. The LbNA location based search gives a variety of boxes near and in North Attleboro, but does not return several newer boxes (such as Risky Cave Adventure and Strike 3) which do show up in the city search.

Yes, that's part of the same geocoding problem mentioned above. I'll have clean that up when the geocoding is working again.

I hope you'll give us a try now that we've updated the site. The searches that you mentioned seem to work fine now and your box shows up.

Happy Hunting!
