Yes, welcome!

To begin, I would first suggest that you FIND at least 20 letterboxes before you begin to carve or plant. That will give you a feel for the variety of carving styles and also, hopefully, good ideas for where to plant.

I know when I first began I immediately wanted to plant and I had a couple of spots I thought would be perfect. But another boxer suggested I find a few first and I'm so glad she did. I would NEVER plant in the spots which were my initial instinct.

And, letterboxers like different things. Some love to carve, some love to plant, and some love to find the boxes. Not everyone loves all 3, and that is okay.

I hope you enjoy the hobby and introduce others to it.

You sound like you're off to a perfect start! Way more knowledgeable than I was when I started!

Welcome Shoreline.

As stated, get out and start finding boxes. Find some by several different planters. Find some on short hikes and long ones. Begin to discover what makes the hobby fun for you. Perhaps its the hunt for the mystery boxes, or solving a particularly hard cipher. Maybe you like long hikes to amazing locations you never would have discovered, or maybe you enjoy hunting the quick drive-bys.

The key is to discover the different aspects of the hobby that inspire and interest you.

Don't be afraid to go to an event and meet some other boxers. We waited too long, and wish we would have braved the event waters sooner. We have met so many friends due to events.

Once you feel confident and inspired, then start planting your own boxes. Be patient and wait for finders. Some times it can be immediate. Sometimes it can literally take years. it all depends on the numbers in your area.
