No way to empty the trash

I have a lot of messages sitting in the trash that I'd love to delete, but my only options are the "In" box or "Archives". Is there any way to do it? Thanks.

Nope, but don't worry about it. AQ will automatically remove anything from your trash folder that's more than a month old. Nobody really needs to see old e-mail messages more than a week old, do they?

I'm thinking about cutting the time down to a week to reduce the clutter, though. Seems like a lot of people are bothered at having old mail pile up in the trash can! Well, it's nice to know that AQ members like to remove their trash often. ;o)

Thanks for letting me know. :-)

You can count me on that one, no reason to clog up valuable space...somehow I enjoy watching it vanish, makes me feel like I've just tidied up something..."why yes, I just took out the trash!".

Ryan, I still have messages in my Trash folder from June. Does AQ count the month as starting when the message was sent to the trash or from the date on the message? Granted some were "officially" taken out of my inbox less than a month ago.

Hmm... Interesting.... I don't see any messages from June in your trash box, but there is one from May!

Okay, the way it works (or, at least, is supposed to work), in detail:

Each night, AQ automatically looks for any messages in the trash folder that's was SENT more than a month ago, then deletes them.

Now, if you move an old message--say from June--into the trash folder, it won't actually get deleted from the folder until the nightly updates are done.

So unless you recently just moved those messages into the trash folder the same day you looked in the trash folder, you might see messages more than a month old. But by the next day, they should be gone.

I'll double check the code and make sure that's really happening, at least! =)

My trash is not emptying either. It looks like it's all still there from when the trash option was first made available. Some were sent way more than a month ago. I had gotten lazy about deleting email and used the new archive/trash option as a way of starting to clean out my in box.

Another question is how do we delete mail that's in our sent box? I do like having a sent box because sometimes I couldn't remember when or even if I had sent something or what I'd said. When I posted a new letterbox yesterday (Scooter was on the road again, this time visiting New Manchester), my sent box showed 17 emails to people who had requested notification of new boxes in this area.

Yeah, I had a mistake in my code that wasn't deleting old mail. It seems to be fixed now! When the nightly updates kick into gear tonight, you should see a whole lot less mail clogging up your trash folder! (I also changed the time to delete to one week instead of one month, so you shouldn't see anything in your trash folder more than two weeks old.)

Also done automatically, and I also changed it'll only have mail that's less than a week old. =)

Actually I would like to be the one to be in control of what to save or delete in my sent box. Some things I do want to keep. :-)

And, just as I was clicking on your reply, I thought of the Archives as a good place too. :-)

Thanks,
