I just started letterboxing last week when feachador introduced me to it. I'm up in Kennesaw near Kennesaw State University. I've only hit about ten letterboxes so far, meant to hit more on Kennesaw Mountain but I had a fall. I think I'm going to get into carving, can't wait to come up with an original stamp. Looking to make friends in the area. I'm a history major working in a local museum.

Well, you found the right hobby to make friends, that's all I have to say! Attend some events and have a blast! Carving can be (is) addicting, especially if you get into planting letterboxes or making LTCs. Letterboxing would be a great escape from studying, I wish it had been popular when I was in school.

You'll enjoy it. As a history major, you'll particularly like the 'history' twist/lesson some of the boxes have. (as well as the boxes hidden in historical locations) . You'll like carving also. (you can get a large slab of pink stuff at the larger Michael's- use a 40% coupon! That'll make it about $ 9.00 to 9.50 and give you lots to experiment with. (in the art section with lithograph/print making stuff) Carving tools there also in the woodworking section.
I would also encourage you to attend LBSE #10 if you can, at Redtop Mtn. It's 'right' up the road from you and a great place to meet people from Ga and several other states. (We started last year in April and enjoyed meeting people at LBSE #9).

I couldnt wait to carve either. I was so embarrassed of my first carve which was an emergeny with a pocket knife & an eraser so i could "stamp in". My carving has gotten better in my opinion ;) oppinion? Anyway..
Now I love love love my first carve/siggy stamp!! Have fun, stay happy, and know that this hobby may change your life :) It changed mine.

So very true. But don't feel like you have to do much (or any) of this either. Boxing is the main fun, and all the extras are fringe bonuses. It can be a bit overwhelming to try to take it all in at one time.

There are a lot of layers to this website, so explore and read as you find the time. In the mean time, enjoy the boxing!

Thanks for all the welcoming messages. I'm going to try and make the Red Top Mountain event, but I have two jobs at the moment which makes it a little tricky. I might be working on a personal stamp carve in the next week or so, so that'll replace the fox I'm using in everyone's boxes now.

Some of us will be camping at Red Top.... I will be in a cottage from Thurs to Sunday.... soooo... if you can't make the actual event day, you can try a day before or after...just post on Georgia boards and we can arrange something.

Who is going to be camping? I'm debating between camping and driving up for the day.

We will be...we'll be in the pull through sights.....I'll try to get a spot close to the front...we have a WhiteHawk travel trailer , white and tan...if you look really close there is an image of our signature stamp on the window by the front door. Also the same image is on the back window of our truck. And we have a green ceramic turtle we place on the picnic table.
We'll be there Friday and Saturday nights. Anyone is welcome to drop on by.
