Hitchhikers: are you lazy?

Quick survey:

Click agree
If you exchange images properly when you drop one off so next finder doesn't have to do anything but put it in their bag

Click disagree
If you just drop it off in box and let the next finder deal with it

From my own encounters. People just leave it undone for next person to take care of. I personally leave it ready to be just picked up.

Looking at the replies, I wonder if no I e who has read this "just leaves it" or if no one wants to admit it. LOL.

I clicked agree, but it's possible I may have forgotten on occasion. I check when picking them up that they're imprinted in the logbook and the letterbox's stamp is imprinted in the HH logbook. Around here most people remember to do the stamping.

These days I'm not picking them up as much as I used to. Last time I encountered one, I photographed the pages with my iPhone then left the HH in the box. I posted them on my blog (password protected) and gave the owner the URL. So I was lazy about taking the HH - partly because of all the stamping required, partly because I sometimes forget I'm carrying one - but not lazy about recording the logbook pages for the owner.

Tell you the truth, I can remember what I do. I think I stamp them. But if you stamp them in the box you place them and others come along and stamp in the books behind it and don't take the HH, then the person who takes it may stamp it again without looking through the book. Not everyone looks through the log books. Hmmmm? I will have to pay more attention to what I do and make sure I stamp it in both books if it has not been stamped yet.

While mine are all ready... I confess that I picked one up in a hurry last week...my tour guide was calling everyone back...and I don't know if it was already stamped into the box.

People who subscribe to this board enjoy HHs, so most will do it properly and not just dump them. Those who dump them or ignore them altogether are unlikely to be reading this board, so your survey will be greatly one-sided.

Or as Homer Simpson said: "You can use statistics to prove anything. 80% of all people know that."

Ah. Makes sense. Is there an " I dump hitchhikers " board I could repost? : ) Wondered why nobody was fessing up. Thanks for the heads up.

I stamp them up when I leave them because the person collecting it may not have to time to do it when they're getting the stamp they came for. And I appreciate it when others do that for me :) grab and go!

I make sure everything is properly stamped into the logbook when I pick up the HH and when I drop it off.
Yes it takes a bit more time, but I enjoy having the next letterboxer experience the joy of seeing where the HH has been. I know I always have fun looking through the logbooks of both HHs and regular LBs to see their journey and who has stamped in before me.

You're right, SpitFire, I don't always remember what I do either with the HH logbooks in terms of stamping them....but I always try to stamp in. Makes it easier for the next boxer, and saves them time! (smile)

It's true. I have picked up a few HH recently where someone didn't do this, much to my annoyance, and I spent a good 15 minutes doing all the stamping. I make it so that when I drop it off again, all I have to do is stamp in the box I'm dropping in and I can go. :)

Exactly!!!!!!!! Makes it that much easier and all the stamps are then logged in accordingly!!! :)

Actually, I think you're also supposed to stamp the box stamp into the HH logbook before you drop it.

Yes, that's what I mean. All I have to do is stamp the box I'm dropping into the HH book, stamp the HH into the box's book, and do my usual stamping.

When I pick up a HH, I do my stamping into it at that time, since I want the HH stamp near the box stamp. And I generally end up having to stamp the box into the HH there, too. :(
