Asteroid City
Board: Movie Moments

Released in 2023 comes our 4th WA movie . . . Asteroid City.
The premise is as follows:
I think . . . it's about a play being developed, being broadcasted, being produced????
So, the play, the movie, the development is about a collection of people who come to Asteroid City for the Junior Stargazer Awards. The recipients are all children who invented inventions beyond their years.
As it happens each collection of people, including a school teacher and her pupils, and roving band, all have their own personal issue going on.
There's the family whose car has a strange mechanical malfunction. Their mother has died, and their father has failed to tell the children 3 weeks after her passing. The father struggles with his grief. But more over, he struggles with his role in his life, in the play, in the production.
Then there is Dinah, who's brilliance is eclipsed (see what I did there) by her mother's celebreality status.
Then there's the kid who insists on be dared to do crazy things. He has a hurt that needs to be addressed.
But moreover, on the night of the awards a special eclipse is supposed to happen when a very unexpected event happens with the eclipse.
Having said more than enough, on to my WA Paws:
This movie is visually stunning. It's gorgeous. One WA Paw.
Everyone is very committed to their role and does a fine job. Jason Swartzman does an outstand job of being a bereaved father and he has this great moment with Margot Robbie. Tom Hanks delivers. But One WA Paw.
But that is it. I mean there are great moment with Tom Hanks and his granddaughters but overall, I didn't get the point of this movie. I didn't care to for the full frontal of Scarlett Johansson. I didn't understand the importance of alien coming. I didn't get a lot of this movie. I simply thought this was such a waste of absolute talent.
Okay, as it Monday, I am going to have skip Wednesday's review and shoot for Sunday.
Next up from the jar is . . . The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

I love Wes Anderson's movies, but this is the only one of his movies that I fell asleep watching. When I woke up I asked my husband if I missed anything important to the plot, he said "No. You were better off sleeping."

Yes indeed. That project harbored many secrets and mysteries. Itβs the one that most thought was an April Fools Joke. It took me many frustrating months to finally get it made and mailed. I liked how it turned out though.

Hiking Navigation in Harold Parker?
Board: State: Massachusetts
Apr 16, 2024 4:50pm
I was wondering if anyone had any tips for navigating Harold Parker? I started the Da da da da, da da da da BATMAN! https://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.php?boxId=307338 series but every clue references number markers and more than half of them are missing :/ Any tips? anyone know where the markers used to be? I've been using the map as I go but there's just SO many unmarked trails and SO many little ponds (I counted 5 on my last trip) that it is VERY tricky to find precisely where the markers were supposed to be. Cheers.

I have an android phone and the Open Street Maps app (OSMand) and that map has the markers AND uses the phone GPS so you will know exactly what intersection you are at.

That series was planted in 2019, and the official map is also from 2019 so markers should be similar https://www.mass.gov/doc/harold-parker-state-forest-trail-map/download
If actual trail markers are missing then printing the PDF map should help sort things out, especially if you also use GAIA or ALL TRAILS (both are based upon Open Street Maps) on a portable device and match up current location with the PDF map.

You might be referring to IrishRefβs Springbok annual puzzle ring. Twelve participants, one mailing per month, starting in January each year.

Find Count not matching up
Board: Bug Reports
Apr 17, 2024 8:42am
When I "Download Data" "Finds and Attempts" my count for everything other than "traditional" isn't matching up with the totals under my profile on AQ. The count for "traditional" matches and so do the totals for everything on "Plants". But for finds, I'm off on eventBox, hitchhiker, ltc, other, postal, and traveler. Some are under and some are over and the total of all is off.

Correction:
The "traveler" and "other" totals are correct. My issues are with "eventBox", "hitchhiker", "ltc", and "postal".

My issues are with "eventBox", "hitchhiker", "ltc", and "postal".
I took a look at the eventBox's, and I'm not seeing a problem. Your profile shows 279 event box finds. Your logbook shows 279 event box finds. (240 listed finds and 39 unlisted finds.) And your downloaded data from the spreadsheet shows 279 event box finds (again, with 240 listed finds and 39 unlisted ones).
I haven't looked at the other types since I can't even find the problem with your event box counts. What numbers are wrong? Can you be more specific about exactly what you're counting or excluding?

ok given the numbers you shared it's the "unlisted finds" that are pulling off. I don't see the "unlisted finds" on the "Finds & Attempts" I'm downloading. Do I need to pull a separate report for those?

Ok, I get it now, didn't realize I needed to pull "Unlisted" separate. All straight now. Thank you both :)

yup, and if you are trying to track milestone finds, remember to "merge" the unlisted finds and the listed finds to find your "true milestone" box.

Still a bit confused. (I want to be sure it is listed correctly, as I have quite a few that follow a theme. I apologize for the lengthy clarification below, but so appreciate your knowledge!)
To clarify, I list a series as "Black Trail". Then, I add 3 boxes underneath that series (Night, Widow, Bird). These are not listed with separate AQ #s. This is the only place I added them.
Now, I add the clue which will be clues that go in order to be found. For example, the trail is a loop.... (Night) Go to the first bench. Look behind for SPOR (Widow) Count the blazes, 1-2-3, just behind the 3rd blaze, look for the large fallen tree. (Bird) Continue on towards the water. Near the boulders, look between the 2 sister trees.
After adding the clue, the series will have 1 AQ#, but each box in series, when found, will each list as a find.
So, I do not have to list each box individually, with a separate AQ#. Instead, I can list as a series, to be found all in order as mentioned above.
Is that correct?

Correct.
The series has one AQ#. Each box within the series is listed individually (no AQ #) and counts as a find on each box.
Maybe this helps? It's a series I found recently.
