Happy New Year to our favorite "PAWS" on the trail just ahead of us :)

My daughters were here for Christmas/New Year visit from CO & MN. We took our new puppy - 4+ month Chocolate Lab on her first letterboxing hikes in Orono! Some frigid walking ;)

Found a couple that we were able to get to - a couple that were frozen box-cicles and left alone for fear of damaging the plastic. With the open winter letterboxing was an excellent diversion. EXCEPT it points out which hiding spots might be best suited for all-season use. (Has there been a thread on the forum for all season hiding tips?)

Boxes sunk into the ground behind trees, under debris or in centers of open stumps are mostly unobtainable thanks to rain/freeze weather pattern. Even with no snow.

Great to hear from you, "On The Corner"! We should go boxing sometime. :)

Yes, I understand what you are talking about as far as winter boxes go. It can be tricky up here with the ice and snow. My husband and I have been brain storming 4 season boxes. We have come up with a couple of idea but haven't tried them yet. This is why I like to check boxes twice a year, spring and fall. I didn't get out last fall so I'm sure some of my boxes are going to nasty by spring. One year, I couldn't get into one till JUNE! I'm learning.

Great hearing from you.

I carry a trowel for early winter and late spring boxing. Sometimes it comes in handy. We have learned not to let Mud use it unless we have extra lock n l ocks with us. lol
