I love it too!

Is the list of letterboxers in AZ based on a search of the locations people put in their profiles? Because I noticed that Doctor and I are included, but Heart Writer isn't - and we all three live under the same roof.

just fyi, I have IE8, and I can see the grand canyon just fine

Ok, I read the 'About Theme' section, but didn't see anything that tells me what in the heck the image is in the menu bars. At first glance I thought it was some sort of insect, but now I think it is a hunched person blowing a horn. I'd still love to know what it has to do with Arizona though. Ryan?

Looks like an Indian to me with some sort of instrument to shake in time with the drums as they dance around a circle. Have you never seen a stomp dance? Ahhh, as Wendy pointed out, the below was a clearer version, it seems, and true enough the character looks to be holding it to the mouth, so you are right, TG.....playing it, not shaking something....sorry...

Kokopelli is a fertility deity among the Hopi. He is also a trickster god and represents the spirit of music. He is a common figure in the Southwest and appears on the city's trash cans in Moab UT. I've seen many, many stamps carved in his image in southern UT and elsewhere. I don't recall seeing him in Star Trek though.

At first glance I thought it was some sort of insect, but now I think it is a hunched person blowing a horn.

Spoken like someone who's never traveled west of the Mississippi. ;o) As others have already noted, that's Kokopelli--a symbol you see used everywhere in the Southwest. It's not just a hunched person, though, it's a hunchback, and it's not blowing a horn, but rather a flute. =) You can't escape him anywhere in Arizona either! I wouldn't even be surprised if you checked your Arizona postcards if you don't find that symbol on it somewhere. =)

But I've updated the About Theme page to include what it is now. =)

I also fixed the link at the bottom to set Arizona as your theme, so that works now as well. (I've been offline most of today and didn't have a chance to fix this stuff until now!)

Yes, it is a nice theme.

But why today? The anniversary of Arizona's admission to the union was February 14th.

But why today?

I've been putting up a new state theme the first week of every month. The date is of no significance--Arizona just happens to be the next state up in alphabetical order. =)

It's not just a hunched person, though, it's a hunchback,

in some stories the hunch back was actually a bag of seeds carried over the shoulder and onto the bag which later morphed into the curved body structure.

I have, actually. A good number of times. Just never to the Southwest. Unless you count landing in Phoenix but not getting off the plane (we were on the ground for about 20 minutes). :)

Yea, I counted it up last night because I thought I might send some images to Ryan when it's time for Missouri to roll around. I need to get going on it because I only have till March 2013!

Then I really better get moving so I can send him some images by Dec 2012! I don't believe Oct 2011... he cried wolf twice already. I guess if he's right, that'll show me!

I don't believe either date. Just like I didn't believe the May 21st date.

I believe God when he said no man will know the day nor the hour... not even the angels know the day.

There has to be some sort of order. Not like I can do them all simultaneously! =) At least this way, it's easy for me to keep track of which themes I've done and which ones I haven't. =)

Darned right I count landing in Phoenix! Because if you kept your eyes open, you probably saw that symbol in every shop, on the carpet, on the TV--they use it everywhere! I think you could even see it on highway overpasses while the plane was coming in for a landing! (Okay, the carpet, as I remember, is actually little airplanes, which is quite cute, but it could have been Kokopelli.)

Can I count changing planes in Chicago as being in IL? Actually I do count that because I was there even if only for a short time. :)
