I have a little pack from EMS. It has two compartments, a large compartment for my wallet, snack and logbook, and a smaller compartment with my ink markers and stamps. On the outside, it has a pouch for my cell phone and a water bottle. It has a shoulder strap which I use diagonally around my torso when I box. It's much lighter than a backpack and holds everything together.

Unfortunately, it's so small that I accidentally left it in my mother in law's car in PA last week! Thankfully, she is shipping it home UPS!

Okay, now I think I need a new backpack for my trail stuff.

Can anybody recommend one that opens up flat so you can see all your stuff at once without having to dig through the bag? Obviously, it also has to be comfortable to carry.

Thanks!

My husband bought me one for Christmas. He got it at Michales. It is a scrapbooking bag. It has zippered pockets inside to hold everything and a plastic pocket that is held in by velcro (great for clues.) It opens out flat and has a shoulder stap that I carry sash style. Its very comfortable, but I can get all of my stuff and my two childrens, The only thing I can't get in there is water bottles. So I'm thinking of getting like a water belt.

Lands End make a great one (its actually a diaper bag, but doesn't look like one) It opens like a doctor bag. Big and Wide so that you can see everything all at one and also has many pockets.

It sells for around $29.00 and comes in many different colors.

check their website. I have one and love it.

I checked the Lands End web site and they have two different style diaper bags, which one do you have: the Do-it-all diaper bag or the Little Tripper Bag. They both look like they would work.

Regarding the lands ends bags~ I have the "Do-it-all" bag. The "little tripper" didn't have the wide mouth opening but it does have a shoulder strap. The do it all does not but the handles are long enough for me to put it on my shoulder, my husband tho cannot.

The do it all is a little large for some, but I like that. and with 3 kids usually in tow it is a diaper bag to on lookers. it has a large outside pocket for a folder. 2 side pockets for water bottles and 2 more smaller pockets for keys, gloves, and compass.

inside has 6 pockets 3 per side the the large middle section. the wide mouth opening is my favorite feature. Hope that that helped.
